Back in the days Emeneya claimed that Koffi did him dirty, saying that the Wake-Up project was meant to be a duo of him (Emeneya) and Papa Wemba, after years of rivalerly and that he stole the idea to make from it Koffi Olomide and Papa Wemba, also because both guys not liking him, them not giving him a shout-out in the main-song while alll other big stars received one. In reaction to this he released a VHS called "Tais Toi" in 1996  reference how the way Papa Wemba insulted Koffi in studio, because of not wanting to share the money of mabanga "tais toi, pauvre commercant" and if I remember well in the video was also an extract of Pepe Kalle saying that Papa Wemba and Koffi could not skip Emeneya in the mabanga's.



But there's another version, which was confirmed by Auguy Ibanga that Sonodisc themselves reunited Papa Wemba and Koffi Olomide on one disc since that they were the biggest artists in their label and the ones that were selling the most.



the third version is a bit polemic, coming from Clan Wenge, that Koffi was afraid of Wenge Musica's Pentagone fame and that's why he contacted Papa Wemba to put the hype of their album down. In the era that the beef of Koffi Olomide vs Papa Wemba on his highest point, Papa Wemba claimed that Koffi kneeled down towards him to do forgive for the way he disrespected him in the press and that he had to defend him in front of Kongulu Mobutu for the problems he had with Nyoka Longo and also to do an album with him (Wake Up). Felix Wazekwa would use the same version, toexplain how his fell out with Papa Wemba, by saying that Koffi kneeled down to do an album with him and said that he didn't want songs of Wazekwa on their album

the fourth version is from Alain Makaba. Makaba's version is that Sonodisc came with a project towards them 3 because of Koffi Olomide and Papa Wemba being the biggest stars, Alain Makaba coming from the most popular band Wenge Musica who released Les Anges Adorables volume 1 & 2 on their label and himself the album Pile ou Face in 1995. Them having to work on a project called WEKOP (Wemba-Koffi-Prince Makaba). But Koffi not wanting to have Makaba on their project. Makaba still participating but as a regular musician. The same Makaba receiving a shout-out on Esakola, by Koffi saying "The P of WEKOP"

I love these kinds of debates. I think it is a combination of four. I will say why?
1) Koffi was having issues with Kester Emeneya and more importantly some of Koffi's fallouts having something to do with Kester Emeneya. I mean look at Jordan Kusa and Beniko Popolipo for examples.
2) Koffi Olomide was mocking Papa Wemba by calling himself Papa Plus and then Wemba attacked Koffi on two songs from Foridoles (I think that name was response to Koffi calling himself Papa Plus)
3) Part of the reason of Koffi Olomide and Papa Wemba came from Wemba using Felix Wazekwa for some songs and he would be the one to get him to be a singer (Wemba sang on Felix's first album).
4) Papa Wemba did indicate how Koffi kneeled to him to defend him against Nyoka Longo and those like Pepe Kalle who were on Nyoka's side. I am surprised that Nyoka never attacked Wemba for defending Koffi.
5) There were producers that definitely were wanting to combine Koffi Olomide and Papa Wemba which says the third version adds up too.
6) Koffi Olomide was the one who fed Papa Wemba lies about Kester which explains why Kester never got a shoutout. This explains why Kester held rage towards Wemba over the years. I am sure however Papa Wemba regretted it but it was too late.
7) Papa Wemba ceded to Koffi's demands of having no song composed by Felix Wazekwa for the Wakeup album. Fortunately Felix and Wemba never had a big fallout over this but I am sure Felix did hold anger at Papa Wemba for this decision.
Fourth version has some truth because Alain Makaba did play on the Wakeup album and he played on a lot of the songs with sebenes than Beniko Popolipo.

That is my take.

Did JB and Werra know that Alain Makaba worked on the Wakeup album? If they knew, did they get mad about it?

yes they knew but they knew that makaba was quite free once he went to europe,then they rejected koffi's demand to send caludji to do the animation

It's still a shame that Alain Makaba didn't do anything with all the talents he had and preferred to stay quit after his departure from Wenge BCBG. Like Marie Paul once said, Alain Makaba was meant to become the Docteur Nico of his generation. It's strange that Alain Makaba didn't do concerts in Europe for Pile ou Face outside Sonodisc's promo, he was in Europe when Wenge 4x4 returned to Kinshasa to promote Pentagone. He could capitalize to make his name bigger with concerts around Africa with session-musicians of Europe

Koffi did well to refuse let it become a Koffi/wemba/Makaba project, it might’ve taken away all the attention from Koffi and Wemba. But still Alain Makaba himself as talented as he is isn’t as serious about music as others like to say he is. He should’ve been more active after he left BCBG. I wish Koffi and Wemba did clips for wake up.
Was Mbochi already recruited during the wake up recordings because Koffi could’ve used him as an atalaku when Wenge rejected having Callugi in the album

alain is not a career driven guy and thats what killed him,he was just a passionate multi talented musician who wanted to earn a name,and it cost him in the long run,because even him and masela could have united and kept a wenge musica 4X4 by name alive for example just removing bcbg and les anges adorables which were jb's names but the fact that he was not too obsessed with being often in the spotlight he ignored that idea and went to gabon then belgium and got stuck to studio life away from cameras
