Congolese music star Koffi Olomide has been slapped with a 18-month jail term by a Kinshasa court without the option of a fine for assaulting one of his dancers in Nairobi.

The jailing of the Congolese musician deepened the free fall in his long career that started with the kicking of one of his dancers at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi last Friday.

Mr Olomide was deported alongside three of his female dancers.

Police arrived at his residence in a continuation of perhaps the worst run in Mr Olomide’s fortunes, a painful price to pay for his moment of madness in Nairobi.

According to reports from Kinshasa, a campaign to have him arrested was started by Congressman Zakarie Bababaswe, who had filed a petition on behalf of the Congolese public to have the musician punished for assault.

Mr Bababaswe had in a televised press conference wondered why Mr Olomide was “still walking scot free and yet there was video evidence that he assaulted his dancer in Kenya?”

Incidentally, the congressman and Mr Olomide used to be good friends until they fell out after the musician and Cindy Le Coeur, his lead singer, were accused of belittling him through their songs.

His arrest, which was ordered by the Attorney-General, has been received with jubilation by locals and foreigners, who feel justice must be done to all, and especially in enforcing women’s rights.

Since the video footage of the incident, in which one of Africa’s leading musicians lashed out with a “kung Fu kick” at one of his dancers, Mr Olomide has suffered a huge setback in a career the otherwise mercurial singer, composer and band leader has diligently nurtured for several decades.

Archos probably it will go the whole hog. He may have pissed off someone in government or he is deemed to be supporting Katumbe!!!
Jailing him will be devastating.

Assume he enters guilty plea, the couurt will be adjourned for preparation of sentence. If he pleads not guilty the case will start, prosecution will present its evidence and defence will challenge the evidence so produced then a magistrate/ judge will adjourn the court to delibarate on the matter.Aftwards the verdict will be announced n sentence will be handled. All that in one day? Seriously?

Confusing indeed. But did Koffi do interview today afternoon? All leading Kenyan media houses reporting that he has been jailed. Archos make calls.

Correct, he was given 3 months suspended sentence back in 2012 from his case with Diego music's founder. I'm quite sure he forgot about that.

So the current word to that Koffi's team of lawyers will request an interim release. If Koffi is indeed convicted, they will push hard for a house arrest (which of course means bribing officials, which will come at a heavy cost). House arrest means no musical activity at all.

Koffi's side is maintaining that he's been falsely arrested being that Pamela did not press charges herself, however, the prosecution will determine if she was forced to remain mute. This is the key element of this case along with 2012 Diego music case of similar nature. Then of course is matter that this took place in Kenya not DRC, and if Koffi should be facing justice- it should be the Kenyan justice system.

Zacle Babaswe has been the real driving force behind his delayed Tuesday arrest after lobbying support - this is quickly appearing to be his vendetta for their long feud. He is also not happy that Koffi is a friend of opposition leader Moïse Katumbi; and that he is in reality his supporter.

Another note - someone needs to inform Koffi's media team (Angelu central or whatever) that they should also take down his recent more provocative/sexual promos and clips on YouTube - since it would only hurt him in this case.

Matebu5, 3-month suspended sentence in 2012 has surely expired! So he can not be jailed by violating probation.Pamela's failure to complain does not matter as in criminal justice, the living  victim is just a key witness but the court can take into account other witnesses as well as other forms of evidence. In this case there is footage ao the incident.Of course as somebody mentioned there consideration of witness intimidation whicha can lead to his/ her silence due to undue influnce exerted by suspect like in this case Koffi is Pamela's boss etc
