I agree.
My people...what the hell man.

Ferre Gola is a man who has a "sound". If you cannot keep up with the journey of the man as he perfects this "sound" of his, this artistry, please don't label the man "monotonous" because you think he sounds the same. Thinking that he sounds the same just because he seems to sound the same is not the same thing. Not everyone can be a grill wearing hip hop fashion genre bending Fally Ipupa. We also need people who know who they are and what they are about. A people of "tradition". A people who perfect a trade and a skill. Ferre Gola is such a person. Such an artist. A man of a particular trade, a particular skill, a particular style, a particular sound.

On the other hand, people complain about Koffi not sounding like the "old Koffi". So, a complain about "monotony" and a complain about "not being monotonous".

My fellow Africans, are we ever satisfied or grateful?

By the way, I'm thoroughly enjoying QQJD. 8/10. Ferre still lacks in the generique and sebene department. It is Congolese music after all, you have to bring on the dance music, not just the bolingo ballads. All the greats understood this and made sure they covered both departments masterfully.

agreed.

i also would like to add that i find it strange that congolese people fall into the bullshit 'beefs' of these artists and don't just enjoy the music as a whole. i feel like right now we are in the middle of a renaissance of sorts with congolese music and every artist bringing quality music needs the support of the people. you can like fally and ferre and fabro and you get the point all at the same time. it's good that the artists compete and try to 'out do' one another musically but the rest is crap and i wish it wasn't such a huge part of what moves this industry.

If only it were like that Mwana Nsalu. But you know us human beings. Our egos anxieties fears and subjectivity always trump objectivity and the collective good.

The main purpose of having such message boards is for fans to share opinion on different aspects of music. Same way you feel Ferre is still not strong enough on the generique department and feel you need to express that is the same way someone feels  about Ferre sounding monotonous and may wish to express the same.
My Werrason gets bashed here everyday that he can't sing and we accept that as opinion and not necessarily a fact.
We are here to agree to disagree. We cannot all move in the same direction like wagons in a train.
Werra doesn't know how to sing it is a fact not an opinion, and he knows it too, have you ever asked yourself why he rarely sing in concert and always let the other singers shine?
Anyway I agree with you about QQJD people are saying it is monotonous but Fally actually does the same mongo/traditional song in generique and nobody ever complained, Elok'Oyo is not that good of a generique but still somehow have some great success wwho knows why, and for the seven part ye Ferré just need to do generique on his own like Fally does because Bercy Ruth and the other one cannot compete with his natural skills as an atalaku.

@Manzambi, the fact that YOU think Werrason does not know how to sing does not make it a fact. It remains YOUR own personal opinion!!! And there is enough evidence here that not everyone agrees with that opinion.
I wish you could all spend a day with Werra listening him singing A capella and you will see what I see

Werra does know how to sing but has become a bit lazy, plus that habit of letting musicians shine a lot went against his reputation
but you put the real werra from mulolo to kibuisa he is definitely a good enough singer but he seems to need pressure to deliver his best which we got  with the then very demanding makaba and kapaya (before he got disinterested because he was not getting what he was promised)

What is this mania of Werrra of not getting the things he promises? The house of Kapaya never given, the gift of Genta never arrived, and the participation of Bill in Ingeta which never arrived, why he can't just not say anything if always make promises he can't keep? The only time I heard Werra singing well was in Nicky D first version a nice second voice tone but then I don't know what happened

Werra may not be the best singer but he does sing well. Actually in concerts he does well and mostly on the lead in most songs.

he definitely knows how to use his voice. similar to a franco. franco couldn't sing for shit but when he hopped on a song it was good. this is part of the art of our vocalists that is just different from others. many times its more about emotion than anything else. as long as you are carrying the tune/notes you can rock. then you have others of course who are more exceptional than that. but yea i never think to myself i need MORE werrason singing but he doesn't bother me when he sings.
8) 8) 8) Really.
Franco was a much better singer than Werrason. Franco actually was good as a lead singer. He was not the best but man he was miles ahead of Werrason. While it is true that Franco was not "a classical" singer but he could sing well. Even when he was sick, he sounded better than Werrason as a lead singer. Franco was a solid singer. Franco's voice was not the best but it was solid. Not quite the case with Werrason. Werrason knows this. This is why he wants his singers to sing more since he knows his voice is kind of limited. But Franco and Werrason were excellent backup singers.

If Werrason had done an album collaboration with JB, he needs to focus more on the choirs with JB because they actually sounded incredible together. It is kind of surprising to some degree.

Not gonna argue
My point has been made. Franco is a legend and exceptional artist. No one is claiming otherwise. I explained congolese vocals and how they dont have to be exceptional to be effective.
