It was Papa Wemba who pushed him to do so, as he liked his voice and believed that Wazekwa could start a career as singer. He promised him to support Wazekwa on his first album, which also happened.




In my opinion, Wemba pushed Wazekwa because he was fed up with the press and the public constantly comparing him to Koffi Olomidé, while they are not of the same generation and Koffi being his former protégé. Wazekwa had a somewhat similar profile to Koffi of being a songwriter, based in Europe, etc. I believe that Wemba thought that people would start comparing Wazekwa to Koffi instead, thinking that it would shift the focus away from people comparing him to Koffi. However, it took Wazekwa at least five albums to finally achieve a breakthrough on the music scene. In the meantime, he lost the originality he had on his first two albums, becoming more of an artist who make people dance instead of making public reflect and love his songs. Next to it, Wazekwa fell out with Wemba soon after his first album. Meanwhile, the comparison between Wemba and Koffi only grew stronger over the years

Wazekwa was a descent singer when he was a lyricist for Koffi Olomidé, Papa Wemba and Duc Herode. Koffi was probably jealous because Wazekwa may have reminded him of his beginnings as a songwriter for Papa Wemba and a student in Bordeaux. Koffi was probably afraid Wazekwa would take his shine.
