With the succes of ndombolo, Stino decided to invite Tutu Calugi in his album Invitation and Reddy Amisi invited Mboshi Lipassa & Dolce Somono Paraboliqur in Etoile. Which made Papa Wemba very angry saying that he would never forgive them for doing that. Adding that Ndombolo will never enter in Viva La Musica. The albums Invitation & Etoile were not well received, despite the contribution of Madilu, JB Mpiana, Koffi Olomide and the atalaku's. Both artists participated on Wemba's zenith of 1999 and the album Fula Ngenge. But after that they were ignored for a long time, not being invited in concerts of Nouvelle Ecriture like in the past (where Reddy used to start the concert before Wemba's arrival). I remember Reddy Amisi recording an interview were he was very angry against Papa Wemba, who said that there time was over, etc. With Reddy Amisi then teaming up with Stino Mubi and recording the album Fin d'Exil (without atalaku's). To prove Papa Wemba a point. But the album flopped very hard (released at the same moment when Mwalimu & Force de Frappe came out). Both artist decided bot after that to leave Viva La Musica and start their solo career. With Stino working on his album and Reddy returning to Kinshasa to form his band Casa Do Canto.

Wemba deliberately tried sabotage it's success in various ways. The most obvious one was him basically disowning them as "Cour des Grands" despite decades of loyality..... and promoting Nouvelle Ecrita as a much better team.

On Fula Ngenge, the last song where they had significant controbution was "Abu-pia". A favorite of mine

I reported on an old site where I used to contribute when they left Viva La musica. Actually, I remember Fin d'Exil being a moderate success in Europe despite the sabatoge attempts. Lots of Viva fan club members were conflicted, but they paid patronage to Reddy & Stino in hope the situation with Wemba would be mended.

Was Fin d'Exil recorded in Paris or London ? Did they just went to London for mabanga costumers. Bana Londres are not influent anymore like in the past.

Apprently things went not so well between Stino and Reddy when they were recording Fin d'Exil. He heard that they fighted each other in the studio, because Reddy could not stand that Stino was wearing sunglasses with Rigo Star calming them down. I didn't belief that Reddy would succeed in his solo-career, when he left Viva. Because of the succes JB, Werra, Koffi & Wemba had at moment. But he surprised me with Compteur a Zero with everybody singing Aziza, Mawe & Assitant Sociale. I remember people singing Mawe in the stadium if their opponent lost the match. With the succes of Compteur a Zero I was thinking that he would continue with Ligne Droit. But it flopped very hard.

What is amazing is that Papa Wemba himself did not jump into the ndombolo train like other Congolese artists had done. He never once did the ndombolo animation. Why did Papa Wemba have a problem with Stino Mubi and Reddy Amisi? What was the cause of conflict between Reddy and Stino? I know they used to be close friends. Are they civil now or not?

The album was recorded at Marcadet and another Paris studio. Staff London really motivated them to do the album, as staff Viva Paris cared about Nouvelle Ecrita.

Yeah, even though they collaborated a lot, Reddy did not like Stino’s “too cool for school” attitude he always had. They were opposites, with Reddy always hot tempered. He also really hated the MJ stuff. They’re friends now though

Wemba fell out with them simply because hey became too senior in Viva. Loyalty isn’t always good for a band member

@Matebu
Thanks for your answer. It does seem like you may be correct. I noticed on both Stino's 1990s album, it had no vocal or choir sound from Reddy Amisi which surprised me considering I think Reddy and Stino voices actually would meld well together. Same with Reddy, it had vocal or choir from Stino. I guess personality differences was too big to be able reconcile at that time.

It looks like Papa Wemba may gotten too comfortable with his impersonator singer Pompom Muyeke and Bendoson. I know he loved those men a lot during the late 1990s. Those were the faces of Nouvelle Generation before they left Wemba in 2000 when Pompom went to Kester and Bendoson decided to do his own thing a little bit. Hence by the late 1990s, he wanted the Viva Le Cours to go away so he could only focus on Nouvelle Generation. Ironically the band started with Reddy Amisi.

like I said in the beginning, Wemba was not happy the way Reddy & Stino invited atalaku's in their album, while that's not Viva's identity. Reddy's case was worser because he invited Koffi, while Koffi was beefing with Wemba. With Papa Wemba felling betrayed and saying that he would never apologize them for that with those staff making it worser by gossping about the artists. The other fact is that the succes of his new back Nouvelle Ecriture and the albums 'L and Nouvelle Ecriture was pushing them to the door and the flops of Etoile and Invitation indicating that their time was over. With people comparing Bendoson to Reddy Amisi and a rivalery starting between the two guys. Alot were saying that Stino & Reddy overstayed in Viva La Musica adding that they had to leave during the time of Prudence/Romeo & Juliette, when they were on the peak. Which is also true, because during that time Reddy was more popular than Wemba himself. But he was scared to create his own band. His concerts he gave in Kinshasa and the tour he did in Zaïre, Congo Brazzaville were so crowded. It was said that Wemba wasn't happy with him performing going back to Kinshasa and giving concerts there.

Stino sung in Reddy's album Injustice. You can hear him on Terminus or Kinganda Lo (if I remember it well). Reddy sung in Stino's M.J. Ngoyi. But their relation was not very good. There were alot tensions during that era between the two guys. It was like JB vs Werra, but then in the same band. Which made people also being surprised when they heard Stino & Reddy announcing their duo-album. Some people were saying that Wemba was creating those tension in the hope that they would create a block against him.Reddy had a difficult relations with the most members of Viva, almost the whole band had problems with him. Since that they could not support his temper and they were seeing him also like snitch, since he was to close to Wemba and reporting everything to him.I remember that Stino & Reddy were also members of the spinoff band "Nouvelle Generation de La Republique Democratique" in the beginning. But those crazy fans made them change their mind and Wemba calling their wives with made them stay in Viva La Musica. Lidjo Kwempa was always running away for them, when he was taking the metro to record their album Porokondo. It suprised me the way Stino stayed in Viva. Because he was the guy who Wemba was taking the most, during the reunion which caused the split of Viva La Musica in 1992. With Awilo Longomba, Luciana Demingongo, Bongo Wende, Fafa de Molokai, Stino Mubi, Jose Fataki & Boss Matuta leaving the rehearsal room angry and creating la Nouvelle Generation.

Regarding Viva and Ndombolo - adding to your point, Colonel Jagger (powerful sapeur & Wemba's childhood friend) made it clear that a sapeur should never ever be caught dancing ndombolo. So Reddy & Stino violated that law in their 1999 albums. But at the same time we heard Ndombolo in Wake Up (yeah it was Koffi doing the cri). So a bit of hypocrisy there.

"But a sapeur moves as little as possible, just enough to show off his trousers or his shoes. If your wearing a nice outfit, you obviously don't wan't to break into a sweat."

This quote should be put on a plaque lol, it sums up why 90% Congolese men dance real constricted at parties  ;D
