Why were they trying to replace Serge Mabiala, isn't he one of Maison Mere's most reliable vocalist? In addition to that, Werrason must have some serious respect for Adjani because I've seen him ignore other group members for far less serious problems.

 To this day, I can't understand how someone that talented could risk all that promised success for drugs...someone must of done kindoki or something towards him.

Your analysis on Aimelia's career with Masion Mere is right, he never really could settle with his band members. Although he could sing exceptional well, he fell far behind when it came to choreography just check out 5:35 of their Zenith dance section...I laughed the whole way through!

They wanted to replace a Mabiala, because they thought that he would stay in Europe. That almost happened. But fans made him return. Adjani still normal at that time, But became big headed after their Europe-tour and Solola Bien getting suspended many times. Adjani's life changed after Kibuisa Mpimpa. Yeah alot of people say that one of the tenoriste cursed him, since they feared him alot. But other says that Werrason sacrifice him. But I think that he did this all by himself, like Babia who started to get contact with bad friends and gangster who were in that world of drugs. I don't what it is but alot artists from N'djili have the same problem or a strange career.

As far as the possible cause of Adjani's downfall, I agree with you that a mix of bad friends and his growing income created his addiction problem.

As for Babia, I feel like he was generally an undisciplined artist. Babia showed that he couldn't be trusted as a long-term member before the drug scandal occured, do you remember when he abandoned the group during the European leg of the Magie tour?

Despite that mistake, Koffi brought him back into the group and he continued on with his contributions to V12 . However, after being left off the albums for Loi and Ultimatum, it should of become apparent that his position within the group was slowly becoming compromised.

In my opinion, his last chance at successful career was the creation of Quarter Latin Academia. Even though the original roster of the group didn't survive past a first album, at least he could continued with Academia under Sam, been recruited by another group, or go solo based off of  the popularity the group had amassed from the success of Santion.

Unfortunately, he remained loyal to Koffi and even though it got him significant vocal appearances on Attentat, he was left behind for Bercy and subsequent tours/albums by Quarter Latin.

In the music business, loyalty should goes only as far as both people stand to benifit. As soon as the relationship is no longer that of significant mutual interest, then loyalty doesn't make sense anymore.

What do you think? Maybe I'm thinking too much from a Western point of view, the music industry in Congo is different but there's a lot of likeness with America with the politics involved.

I don't think that Babia would fit in Academia's formation of 1999. Maybe that of 2000, when Suzuki, etc. joined. ,but not of 1999. If Koffi didn't broguht Babia to Bercy because he tought that he would ran away like in 1994 and 1998 and he was very addicted to drugs. When they were preparing Attentat he sold his Mercedez Benz in parts, which Koffi bought for him and the rest of team which remained loyal after the creation Academia created. He sold first the car tires, then the rearview mirror, etc., etc. He was attacking strange sometimes which was hurting his friends. This all made Koffi take Mutshapha instead to Bercy instead of him. Babia became then very dirty and starting asking for money to people on the streets. I remember a woman living in Brussels saying that she wanted to give him some money, but then a shegue took that away and said that Babia doesn't deserve it and gived it her back. That shegue said that he didn't deserve it since that he was dissing artists very hard on tv when he was in Quartier Latin (Papa Wemba, Nyoka Longo, JB Mpiana and Academia). Babia then participated on Shora Mbemba's album Cyclone with Beniko Popolipo and was invited by Academia at their concert in GHK. But despite that he stayed in Quartier Latin, but had then problems to adapt to the formation who made Force de Frappe and started to act more and more strangely. Which made Koffi leave him again behind in Kinshasa and he decided then to join Jolino with Bendoson who failed with his Nouvelle Ecriture de l'An after that Pompom Miyake, Ramazani & Christian na Nzenze left.

they are like twins haha. They loved each otther so much. It would have been interesting if they decided to record an duo-album around 2006, like Papa Wemba & Koffi Olomide or Tabu Ley & Luambo Makiadi. They would have won alot of money. Now it's to late they are so "kidiba". So sad while Clan Langa Langa profited alot with reunion-concerts, fara-fara concerts on the same stage and reunion albums.

Yeah. When Babia stayed in Europe waiting for Quartier Latin he joined Modogo Gianfranco Ferre's band Place Vendome for a moment and it's from there where he got in touch with the wrong people (drugsdealers, gangsters, etc.) and started to use drugs, while before that he didn't even drink alcohol.

That must have been painful for Koffi to watch him fall apart to such vices, maybe that's why he never officially kicked him out the group because of pity of what Babia could have become.

Yeah, I heard he tried to pay for his rehabiliation to help him recover on a few occasions, but it didn't work. Similar case with Eric Tutsi

Babia was so appreciated he used to sing Koffi's parts at repetitions in the 90's

yeah, he had the same problem

after leaving Quartier Latin in 2001 and his collaboration with Jolino. He returned to Quartier Latin in 2003, when Quartier Latin returned from their Europe-tour.



After that he had to travel to Europe for Zenith and the recordings of Monde Arabe, but he was left behind on the airport. Then things were going worse with him and after that he became very ill and was brought to the hospital where they did surgery on him. Journalist and owner of Visa 2000 & Palmares Michel Lady Luya (R.I.P.) paid everything for him, his hospitalisation and surgery. But since that Lady Luya in conflict with his boss, Koffi sended Babia when he recovered to attack him on tv and denieying that he helped him. Which made people hate Babia more and seeing him as a ungrateful guy, after having alot of compassion for him when he struggled on the streets. Then his situation in Quartier Latin was so/so with journalists like Raissa Mombili, Thierry Dawa, etc. started to ridiculize him in interviews the way he was dressed and talking.




 Despite all those problems he participated on the chorus of B.E.K. From 2008 things started going well. He was fully recovered, he kicked off from drugs, dumped his bad friends, divorced from his ex'wife Nicky (the mother of Prince Babia) and started then a new life. He became a musulman and started dating Alima Djamal. But is role didn t change in Quartier Latin he was still doing those dirty jobs (attacking Felix Wazeka, Werrason & Fally Ipupa). His love for Koffi was at the same very big.

Had he not died, do you believe that Babia could of made a stable career for himself? Last I heard, he was attempting a solo career from Angola before he died. Did Koffi ever acknowledge him after he passed away?

Babia has a complete album that was never released and it'll likely stay that way. I remember hearing the generique, which sounded very good and being excited. Very Koffi inspired arrangement & mabanga style. Mawa trop, RIP

Of course, Koffi was the main guys speaking at his funeral with a huge turn out of musicians. He tried many times to help him through his situations. I know the some of the press tried to make him look like a bad guy anyways to generate attention

Wow, I've never heard this song before! I'll give Koffi credit, he did what he could for Babia. It was a stroke that killed him, correct?
