Can we get some clarification on the origin of the dance and the phrase? Im understanding that it came from Wenge 4x4 camp. I also heard Bouro Mpela had something to do with it. Does anybody know for sure where it came from seeing as it was the biggest crie of all times.
If it did come from 4x4 or JB and his team, did they ever feel some type of way with Koffi becoming the face of the crie, the dance and after a while the genre named after it?

After reading that thread do you think Tutu Caludji felt some way about the Mboshi Lipasa version being the “main” version of Ndombolo. No one outside of people from Kin that were around that time know of the JB mpiana version. On the other hand, people all across africa and maybe even some people in the islands know of LOI.

Tchip that's not true.
Ndombolo of JB Mpiana was a big hit Africa with everybody dancing in Mali, Kenya, Benin, Zambia, Tanzania, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, etc. don't blindey follow those comments of Werra-fans and that fake story about Ndombolo on Koffi's wikipedia. Feux de l'Amour made JB tour with Wenge 4x4 whole Africa and after the split Wenge BCBG. The album which confirmed Ndombolo as main dance  of Congo was Defao's Sala Noki which was also a big hit in Africa. This all makes me angry with people who were in village or not even born saying it like they were present. Koffi's Loi came 6 months later after JB's Feux de l'Amour. If No one outside knew JB's Ndombolo how was he able to tour whole Africa with his album. How was it able that the president of Zambia danced on his generic. How was it able that Jimmy Houetinu and David Monsoh came with the idea to record a remix-album for Feux de l'Amour.. If JB Mpiana's didn't get down from 2002 and if Defao manifed his succes til day. Then people would still talk about the two generics they made in 1997. The day both artists will die will made everybody understand how big the impact of both artists was in Africa. Like Papa Wemba in 2016. Who forgot how everybody said in 2010 that Wemba was only know in Congo? That nobody knew his worldmusic in Africa. But his death showed Koffi-fans that he was known in whole Africa for his work in Emotion and Le Voyageur.

Loi is now the main version of Ndombolo. But back in the days there wasn't a real main version. Since that there were alot of Ndombolo-generics (1997-98), which made the hype bigger. It's like when Coupe Decale came in 2003 with everybody doing the same animation (coupe, coupe..) and in 2008/09 everybody in Ivory Coast dancing Kpangor. Wenge Maison Mere could have done the same thing in 2002 with Koyimbi-Ko but they were stupid by wanted to have all the cries for thnenselves. Which made them mis the opportunity to create the same impact Kwassa-Kwassa & Ndombolo had.

For Calugi it was not a problem that everybody was doing the Ndombolo-crie.. He was proud and saying that made "Ecole des Calugist", since that everybody was following his style Theo Mbala, Mboshi, Papy Cocaïne, Bizima Kondos, etc.

Telling it as it is.
I also get frustrated with lack of correct info going around

it was started by Wenge,,(tutu Caludji)..the rest just copied..most of the generique staff was usually started by Wenge,Zaiko and Empire Bakuba...the rest just copy and follow behind...people like Chief plagiarist Quadra Zoba Man just copied it.

@mvulusi, Koffi sings Ndombolo in Wake Up, which came out way before Mpiana's Ndombolo, so could you please clarify why you credit Mpiana yet Koffi had used it on songs before? I know Koffi is not the creator of the crie but he used it before Mpiana so did he steal it from J.B?

koffi sang ndombolo in wake up,because wenge refused to let him go back to europe with caludji, he went to kin to get caludji  but wenge was going on african tour so they needed him especially with ekokota starting to lose form

Ok I shouldnt have said “no one outside of Kin...” All I was trying to say is that LOI is about 30 times more known than Ndombolo from Feux de L’amour. I understand feux de l’amour came out first. My question was how did Tutu Caludji feel with the Koffi version being a much bigger hit on a much bigger scale. I was in Paris at the time, and it was the same year of the 98 world cup. Loi came out and Koffi NEVER looked back. Even to this day theres africans that have never heard the Mpiana version. Thats all Im saying

you know whats the difference bro,CLIP it played a hugeeee role, its totally normal that a generique with a clip helping people to master dances has more success than a good generique, even to this days with youtube views, you'll always find the audio of a generique taking ages to go above 100K views then hit the million before a month with a clip
and add to that koffi is exceptional at promotion so the clip was properly spread

I think you’re right. Thats probably what made the difference because I cant honestly remember a single congolese person in paris  that did not have that LOI VHS. I wouldnt be surprised if that VHS sold more copies in europe than the actual CD. All my cousins and uncles had it, and we ALLLLLLL knew the dance moves to the fucking T
