Its not really their fault. Back in the days before the Coupe-Decale virus it was easy to start Soukous-career and make a name in Africa and the West-Indies. Those guys based in Paris and Brussels are unlucky that they are forced to perform only at those bars and nightclubs by the combattans and not allowed like those based London to perform at concerthalls, etc. If they were allowed to do that then it would have been a diffent story from 2013. They have to thank Rouph Mbutanganga and Canta Nyboma with their platform Kongo-Sebene to make that possible. The combattans were close to accept concerts for diaspora-artists based in Paris, but the concert of JB Mpiana at Zenith messed everything up. Everybody is taking advantage by the studios there, but nobody want to buy their albums because they are "finished". Even if they would announce Richard Mukena live at Olympia who would come there ? A guy like Mirage Supersonic recorded an album called Figue de Style which was a huge succes, but he wasn't able to tour, because he hadn't papers. He elder brother Marie Paul decided to go with his friends to Kinshasa without having European papers and what happened then.... 7 years blocked. Alot of artists are blocked because of not having papers yet or have their family here and don't want to divorce. Most European-based artists who joined bands in Kinshasa (BCBG, Tonya Tonya, Quartier Latin, Maison Mere) divorced.

Why do combatants continue to disrupt artist from hosting big concert halls like Zenith and Olympia? What is their issue? Are they crazed fans or is this politically motivated? And why haven't the police in Europe cracked down on this? It's a serious safety issue!

What Congolese music requires to come back to good form is enforceable music contracts and unions to protect artist overtime. If the business doesn't reward talent across the board, then the artist will gravitate to an art form that pays better even at their own creative detriment.
