The interview was not yet translated into English when I posted my response; you were right. Koffi was making it difficult for Mamale to continue on with the group, those petty games of gossip and sabotage were pushing him out.

In fact in this interview he tried very hard to protect koffi's image...but everything crumbled when he was pressed to explain how he left the band.

Is it true that JF Ifonge created the dances from Attentat? If so then that justifies his recruitment. Because he can't sing, at least Depitcho had charm to work around his limits as a vocalist.

I don’t know. According to Chikito Mutakatif it was his creation. JF Ifonge always singing in concerts of Quartier Latin since the day they recruited him during the new year eve-concert in Brussels at Concert Nobles, going with them to countries like Zimbabwe, Zambia and Tanzania, seeing how Sam Tshintu and Modogo left and became a keymember from that day with Koffi praising him often in interviews.

Back in 1999 he was with Depitsho, Champion& Mamale one of those stars who were often going to television to give the program of Quartier Latin and attacking Papa Wemba, Academia & Nyoka Longo. JF Ifonge didn’t sing in Attentat because someone snitched to Koffi that he had a relationship with one of his dancers. Back in those days Koffi spending since the birth of Didi Stone (July ‘99) most of the time in Paris until Bercy and joining Quartier Latin if there was a concert in one of those African countries). So when Koffi heard it in Europe he decided to punish JF Ifonge by not letting him sing in Attentat. After the release of Attentat, 6 Quartier Latin-members started to make big car-accidents and many musicians started to get nightmares. JF Ifonge was one of those guys and almost died. Shortly after that Quartier Latin went to prepare the Bercy-show at Maman Amy’s house in Binza, but JF Ifonge wasn’t there because he got arrested He was lucky that he had French papers. Because that made him get French advocats who made him free. JF Ifonge arrived in Paris the same day when the concert was about to start. This all made him only dance in the intro part, Loi and Victoire.(Those who saw the show live on RTNC were really to see the complete show, like that of Olympia & Zenith). After that he decided to Quartier Latin, because he felt that something bad could happen. Don’t forget that some musicians lost their parents shortly after the Bercy-show. The same thing happened when Quartier Latin perform at Olympia, Mboshi loosing his mother, Dolce Somono losing his wife. So I think that that all scared him. In an interview he revealed that Depitsho had exactly the same nightmares he had.

That's crazy! I'm surprised that Somono was able to continue his music career so soon given that tragic loss, even Lofombo slowed down after his wife passed.

 That is interesting you mentioned that, didn't Fally Ipupa lose both parents when he joined Quartier Latin? I'm not a big believer of mystic forces, but perhaps those strings of tragedy and car accidents would have scared me away from being a member of Quartier Latin if I were in his shoes.

It seemed like Savenet and JF were the most hated members in any Congolese orchestra; Fally disliked them, Bouro disliked them, and that video the group did to clown Depitcho's vocals on Cameleon was rude (although funny).

Well actually I wouldn't go that far to say they were the most hated in any orchestra you're pushing it there. Fally didn't dislike them cause he was depitcho's pire petit and they knew each other since before QL and they're still close to this day just watch sur la route de bercy, Bouro was just jealous of depitcho becuase depitcho was beating him in dance battles (bouro also had the same problems with fally) but now depitcho and bouro are on good terms.

They died somewhere in 2002, but not in 2000.

Did Deba O'Neil play rhythm guitar on Force de Frappe? Although I saw him with Koffi and the band for Bercy, he didn't appear for any of the concerts that followed leading up to the recording of the group album.

Bro it was a big event. It was the first time that an African artist went to perform at Bercy which made people of RTNC going there to broadcast it live in Kinshasa, like they did with his Olympia & Zeniith of 1998 and Tabu Ley’s show at Olympia in 1970. After the show M6 & France 2 went to talk about that concert and all newspapers talked about it.

Koffi’s concert at Olympia, Zenith & Bercy were 6 hours long hahaha. So it’s normal that they cut alot parts out. The images of Bercy were bought by televisionchannel MCM Africa (which Trace Urban now) and they wanted to air that concert every week  they a 90 min VHS. That of Olympia was much longue (164 min).

That’s not true he apperead in many concerts that followed after Bercy, but he left just before they started recording Force de Frappe. Ridens Makosso & Felly Tyson both played rhythm and lead and some songs as mi-solist. Koffi Olomide was also credited as guitarist.
