How much were the members of Quartier Latin getting paid in those days? What other responsibilties did Modogo, Akongo, Popolipo, Mamale and others want that Koffi was not giving them?

Koffi never had respect for his instrumentalist. How could Binda Bass last so long with the band when you had Pathy Bass, Clovis Silawuka, Rocky Blandchard, and Montigia Tunga at your side?

He did the same thing to Mbetenge Domingo. He created the partitions to Danger de Mort, but why was he left behind in Kinshasa during the recording process in Europe? As much as I respect Felly Tyson, he interpreted those parts lazily on Mondoungou and Martens.

just 300 dollars during Europe-tours and 100 when they were in Kinshasa. Popolipo, Do Akongo, Modogo, etc. had already children and it very hard to live with that, especially when familymembers know that you go often to Europe (thinking that Europe is a paradise) and people finding it strange that you live in a small house with all the fame you have. I also forgot to add that they wanted to get all mercedes-cars as gift when Koffi asked them what he could buy for them for all the things they did for him at Zenith & Olympia, as reacting against those of Wenge BCBG, but Koffi refused.

Motingia Tunga didn't spent alot of time in Quartier Latin, he just spent 2 months or something like that. He left because Koffi prefered Pathy Bass to participate to play bass on the Loi-album, since that he wasn't able to manageKoffi's and QL songs despite being seen as one of the two best bassplayers of Congo at that era. Something that Koffi doesn't like, Koffi only likes people who give their 100% thats why guys like Babia Ndonga, Eric Tutsi, Willy Bula were often left behind durings tours of Europe and Africa. Because of Koffi seeing Blanchard as his son, he started do everything that he wanted like sleeping with girldancers, coming late to rehearsalsand other thing was that he wasn't really strong on the spiritual level when the concurrence became strong for that position (5 bass-players). Binda Bass was just doing his thing and always listening to the orders of Koffi, that why he and Felly Tyson lasted very long compared to Lebou Kabuya, Champion Djikapela & Rocky Blanchard.

It was a strategic move, Koffi knew that Quartier Latin could split in Europe during that tour with those tensions and he didn't want to lose Mbentenge, knowing that he could contribute alot on the artistic field after a possible departure of Fally, Ferre, Felly, Titina, etc. which also happended. Marents is a song credited to Felly Tyson lol. He already played lead on the original version and corrected it in Europe.

If Babia never got involved with drugs, would it have made a difference in his career? That response from the crowd when he danced in the video was more than enough to ensure his appearance at Bercy, but he almost settled in Europe because of a woman back in the Magie days. I'm not sure if he would be around for the final Quartier Latin line-up we had for Effrakata and onward.



Quartier Latin Academia could have had a long, but they should of released their Viagra before Werrason and JB Mpiana.

Maybe, before going to jail. He wasn’t using drugs, smoking and drinking alcohol. But when he was released from prison he started to team up with wrong people in Paris and became addicted. I think that Koffi was dissapointed in him, when he discovered that.

Lol, then again not showing up to concerts weeks long and acting strange after using drugs. Those things piss Koffi off. It was a good choice from Koffi to prefer Eric & Mustapha above him.

Babia could have been on Effrakata, but Koffi left him again behind. Because he wasn’t showing up during concerts and rehearshala and became more addicted to drugs. It was a bad choice of him to rejoin Quartier Latin after having joined Academia for a moment, just because of Koffi sending guys to him and giving some new clothes. He sended the same guys to Popolipo, Do Akongo, Ondoma Motema& Rocky Blanchard. But Do Akongo & Popolipo were smart engough to not accept the offer, only Rocky Blanchard (making the same mistake like in 1998) & Ondoma Motema accepted it. Both guys ended by staying again behind in Kinshasa.

Even if Viagra would have been a huge succes, Academia split because there were already big conflicts between Lebou & Sam. With rivals behind the scenes snitching them for the ngulu-affaire. Maybe that Somono’s interview in 2002 after leaving made those problems coming faster. Because he openly said that on tv, that Sam and co were making money of it on one of those rare VHS.

In that Germany concert I cannot finish watching Bouro's dancing part.I've repeated it a countless times.Look how Somono and the danser who is seated near the drummer are wathing him in awe.

Ya Mvulusi96, you must have been one of the admins at QL at one point or rather you must have been one of the 'guys' sent by Koffi to convince musicians to rejoin QL.

watch this video and judge. I remember Alain Mpela once joking in Naty Lokole's or Papy Mboma's interview that Bouro Mpela isn't a better than him. Adding that what Bouro Mpela does isn't dancing but acrobatics hahahaha

Both brothers should have continued on as a duo act, because going back to Quartier Latin ruined Bouro's career.

Why did they split? The album was so good!

They didn't really form a real duo like Les Freres Soki. It was Moovison who came with project. He was about to produce Alain Mpela's first solo album Feuille de Route, but wasn't sure if it would succeed since that his EP Intifada wasn't well received. On the other side he was about to produce Bouro Mpela (who then just left Quartier Latin) first album Vice de Procedure, but he was also with not sure if that album would succeed. So he asked Alain Mpela, if he could record a duo-album together with his little brother Bouro Mpela and he accepted. They started then to record Mortel Combat with Alain Mpela's band Generation A in Kinshasa and a part in Europe with arranger/guitarist Alain Makaba. Then when the album was finished they didn't go back to Kinshasa to do the promotion, because Moovison want didn't give them the money to promote the album their since that he knew that he wouldn't get  that money back because of the huge piracy there. So a conflict started, that's also why the album flopped. Moovinson prefered to promote the album in Brasil, Colombia, Suriname, Cuba with songs like Rumba Kongo, Aicha, etc. (I heard Rumba Congo 3 times on the Latin Radio back in 2007). So after spending almost a year in Europe, Bouro Mpela received an offer from Koffi Olomide to rejoin Quartier Latin, knowing that one of the two F's would leave soon (Ferre & Fally). Bouro Mpela accepted the offer which made Bouro's parents, his own family and Alain Mpela furious with Bouro's parents even cursing. That's why the Mortel Combat-project stopped, but back in 2008 or 2009, I don't remember they toured with Alain Mpela in the USA and made some playbacks in New York and were also the first Congolese artists to perform Las Vegas (Maybe they lied lol, because they are from the Wenge-Generation).

Yes, rejoining Quartier Latin ruined Bouro's career. He finished his own career for doing that and from then people weren't taking him serious anymore. While if he would record Vice de Procedure staight away then think that he would succeed with G5-revolution already starting with Fally and Bill Clinton (in Kinshasa). In the Mortel Combat-DVD they were already promoting Vice de Procedure. After leaving Quartier Latin against after 7 months, the press and himself announced that Vice de Procedure would be produced by David Monsoh's label Obouo Music, but I don't know what went wrong. Maybe Fally wasn't happy with that and did everything to get him out. Then after that Bouro Mpela was about to sign with a recordlabel, but that label received threats and alot of letters (hahahaha that must be Koffi), so they refused to produced Bouro Mpela. Which made him sign with Le Duo d'Enfer (Papy Mukiadi & Adrien Mukiadi), the guys who produced Temps Present "Mayi Ya Sika", but that album wasn't well promoted and flopped very hard. While it had very good songs.





That attack towards Koffi kills me in Ecole d'Amour kills me, he did it also in the Mortel Combat hahahaha. "Et puis ozo continuer koloba que nga nazela, dit en tant que qui, pourquoi et de quel droit" Those 3th and 4th generation bandleaders were sick and killed many careers.
