Mimiche Bass did an excellent job on A La Que Leu Leu. Listen to the way he played on Ma Personalite from the start until the sebene and on the rumba Maman Mabe.

Its like all the credits of A La Que Leu Leu went to the singers, atalakus, flamme and kakol while Mimiche did also a excellent job.

Who do you think had the better bassist, Wenge BCBG or Masion Mere?

lol, that comparation isn't fair. Wenge BCBG had only one bass-player since Patient Kusangila's departure, that was Kaziangana Sunda aka' Sunda Bass (RIP) until 2016, while Wenge Maison Mere had "Ngwakasi" Masela Ndudi, Christian Mwepu, Mimiche Bass, Michel Bass, Cedrick Bass, etc. the list is long and each of them had a different style.

Michel Bass & Mimiche Bass were Lofombo's understudies but they had both a their own style of playing bass. Christian "Mabanga" Mwepu was more of that Zaiko-style which Motingia Tunga and Oncle Bapius were playing and Didier Masela is like Pinos (ex'Victoria Eleison) heir. Christian Mwepu was the best of them all (he left Maison Mere to early), followed by Didier Masela "Samba batcho".

Sunda Bass was also a good bassist. The difference with Sunda Bass, was that his bass-guitar was also sounding excellent during concerts even if it was in Kinshasa or a minor concert in Europe while those of Maison Mere were often not audible.

Mimiche's bassline on Ma Personalite & Maman Mabe were just the best in this album. Its a shame that he decided stay in Europe after finishing this album, they were lucky that Michel Lumana was around in Maison Mere who's also an excellent bass-player (better than Mimiche in my opinion).

I wonder by who Mimiche was inspired in this album. Was it by Decca Mpudi (ex' Ok Jazz player) ? They need to send Jeannot Bel to record a video with him, to talk about his carreer, his work, to show his basslines,etc. like they did with Flamme, Beniko, Mogratana, Dodoly, etc.

I feel like Mimiche Bass doesn't get enough credit or respect to his name. His bass work on the albums he played with MM and Les Marquis were splendid. What's he up to nowadays? I know Michel Bass became a prolific session bassist when he left MM, but what about Mimiche?

He lives in France. He works since 2012 on his solo album C4, but its still not finished. I guess that he doesn't have enough money and that his original manager abandoned him. It is very hard for a Congolese instrumentalist to make it as solo-artist, Congolese people see them don't respect them and label them as "batu ya sima" like they are nothing while they very important. You can't make music without guitar-players and drummers.

He is celebrated today for his talent as a rhythm guitarist not as a bassist. Same goes for Roga Roga and Japonais Maladi, both are competent bass players but the lead guitar is their claim to fame.

Patient Kusangila is a pure bass-player. He has now rejoined Wenge BCBG as a bassplayer. In Attraction Babylone (where played alongside Suzuki Luzubu) he was a bassplayer. In 1990 he wanted to join Wenge as a bassplayer, but there was already Masela, Christian Mwepu & Dello Bass. So he became a rhythm-player who used then to play Zook, R&B, etc. With Collegien staying in Europe, it made get that rhythm-player spot until Pentagone, switching then to the mi-solo position and Fiston Zamuangana getting his spot until the split.When they created Wenge BCBG at Blaise Bula’s house he became the main bassist, Christian Mwepu had to become the reserve-bassist, but he was on bad terms with JB so he joined Wenge Maison Mere. Sunda Bass then became the reserve-bassist but they left him behind in Kinshasa because he just joined the band which made Alain Makaba and sometimes Titina fill the void of Christian Mpewu. From Bataclan until his last concert before getting ill, he never touches the rhythm-guitar again during concerts, leaving it to Burkina Faso and Fiston Zamuangana. After being recovered he rejoined Wenge BCBG again as a bassist at Zenith de Paris.

When he started to do gospel music in Europe after his departure from Maison Mere, he prefered always to play bass.

Thanks, ndeko for the history. What about Fiston Zamuangana? Why did he leave BCBG? He was a better guitarist than Alba.

Funny thing, i realized it very late how massive did he do this perfect job in the album.

When he finished performing in Canada, he decided to stay for studies. JB, Blaise, Alain and others were all dissapointed because he was an excellent rhythm-guitarist.

that folklorique bayombe-rhythm in the intro the Ndombolo-generique was his idea and they recorded a manquette-version at studio bobongo of Feux de l'Amour. But it got played by Patient Kusangila in the studio, because he left behind Kinshasa during Wenge 4x4's last tour 1996/97.

You got plenty of talented artists who stayed very long in bands. You got Titina Al Capone, Flamme Kapaya, Felly Tyson, Binda Bass, Djuna Mumbafu, Oncle Bapius, Meridjo, etc. the list is long.

Christian Mwepu was already for a long time in Wenge 4x4, he was there already since 1987/88 first doing those Zouk, R&B music before 4x4 arrives on stage and later on becoming Masela's backup. After the split he became Maison Mere's first Chef d'Orchestre.

Collegien's dream was to live in Europe, so he ran away after Wenge's first concert in Brussels, he became later on Wenge El Paris's rhyhm-player after living in Switserland for a moment and then went with Marie Paul, Zing Zong, Depitsho, JDT, etc. to Kinshasa in 1992. After that he decided to join Nouvelle Generation of Lidjo, Awilo, Bongo Wende, Fafa de Molokai and stayed there until 2000 becoming then Awilo's rhythm guitarist until 2006.

Fiston just wanted to study since that he didn't got the chance to finish school, because his dad died in 1992 (his dad was Zaiko's first rhythm player and played from its birth in 1969 until his death in 1992) and he got later abandoned by his family. He started to play in streetbands and joined Wenge in 1995, being then 15 years old. Pina Colada who replaced Burkina Faso in Wenge BCBG did the same thing when they arrived in Canada in 2000/01.
