Do we still have underground groups like Kibinda Nkoy and Bana Odeon today that inspire the big artist and groups with dances or animations?
Has Bana Odeon ever release an official album or were they just a street group?
Kibinda Nkoy and Bana Odean weren't underground groups. Kininda Nkoy was a official folkloric band from Kintambo who were following the style of Swede Swede Kintambo, they were first called Swede Swede Junior and then changed into Nouvelle Generation. But when the fame came they were adviced by Zacharie Bababaswe to change their name since that there was already a band called Nouvelle Generation (the band of Luciana, Awilo, etc. in Paris). So they decided to change their name into their dance Kibinda Nkoy, they were sponsored by Kongolo Mobutu's label Yoshad Production and were performing every weekend in his house. But they didn't had a chance to record an album at that time. They released an album in 2000 which was years after the split, when some keymembers already joined bands like Maison Mere & Quartier Latin and Doudou Kibinda having fully control over the band.
Bana Odean was also an official fokloric band based in Kintambo, they released a disc on the market who's now very rare. They were giving bands like Zaiko Langa Langa and Empire Bakuba a hard time when they were on the same stage. They inspired Zaiko to start animation (Nyoka Longo starting to do it in concerts) and later they started recruit their members (first mbonda-player Djerba Manzeku and later Nono Monzoluku and Bebe Atalaku). In the 70s and 80s it was very easy for bands to record discs (recording it at Studio Bobongo or Veve), having then bands who were looking for fame already releasing discs.
Yes there are still bands that inspire big artists and groups, but it nowadays mostly about sex and animation isn't really important like it used to be in the 80s, 90's and 2000s. Today dj's are also inspiring atalaku's for cries. About dances since 2010/2011 Congolese artists are copying dances coming from Ivory Coast and Nigeria.
