1) Beniko - top 3 guitarist all-time in my opinion. The man behind Koffi’s biggest hits along with Phillipe Guez
2) Titina - Arguably the best drummer the genre has seen
3) Ramazani - a prodigy
4) Champion Vualu “Dracula” from Pirette Adams group, before that Wenge Kumbela. Amazing soloist - he’s now in Team Wata as the main guy
4) Montana
5) Deo Brando


Fally’s not on you list, but he could be classified here coming from Talent Latent - “Anelka le transfer le plus cher”

Ferre doesn’t really count for me.... he was barely in the group, using it as a bridge to go solo

1) Ile de Cambodge from Delta Force; the opening drum passage of Effrakata still gives me chills!

2) Beniko Popolipo from Zaiko; the best guitarist Koffi ever had.

Nice list bro. Naa Talent Latent wasn't known it only became known after Fally went solo and when it appeared on digital platforms, I've gotta count Ferre he did a year in the group and participated in the album and maxi single.

Lol don't try and go off topic 

1. Beniko ya Poli - Zaiko. There's a reason the man was called 'Zero Faute', he was a great help to Koffi and helped him turn QL into one of the best Congolese bands of our generation.
2. Ramazani - Nouvelle Ecriture. He served as a great contrast to Felly Tyson's playing style.
3. Montana - Big Stars. Like Fally and Bouro, he was an integral member of QL's vocal team during his tenure in the band and carried over the influence he had from the Big Stars.
4. Titina - Clan Wenge. Koffi had spent years trying to poach his services, and when you listen to his work on ADE and Monde Arabe, I can see why.
5. Deo Brondo - Anti Choc/Zaiko. Same reasons as Montana.

If Koffi had succeeded in attracting Guy Guy Fall and Aimelia Lias to QL, both of them could be top 5 contenders.

I choose Beniko Popolipo, because he was important for the development of Lebou Kabuya, Felly Tyson, Blanchard Miantezolo, Ridens Makosso and others who had then to alot of experience as solists and bassplayers. He also helped Koffi with managing Quartier Latin, because back then most musicians were in their early 20s and weren't easy to handle. He also arranged many songs for Koffi Olomide (for example Parking Ya Baba in Koffi's house in Paris).

Champion Djikapela, because he came with fresh energy. He was a complete drummer. Koffi Olomide spotted him during a fara-fara concert in Lemba with Lavignora Esthetique and immediatly sended guys to get him into Quartier Latin. He was interested in getting Champion, because his own drummer of then Coco Tchomba was very limited, having always always to get Djudjuchet Luvengoka to drum for him in the studio (V12 & Noblesse Oblige). From the day Champion joined, Djudju wasn't not more needed anymore for studiosessions. Koffi also liked him because he was then drumming in the style of Titina Al Capone (hitting all pieces), while most drummers were only focussing on the snare. Champion was a real showman, before the entry of Koffi in big concerts in Paris, Abidjan, Dakar, etc., he used always shows his skills. Most drummers are not known, but Champion was known in whole Africa, because of the way Koffi and his atalaku's (Dolce, Mboshi and later CNN) were mentioning his name or nickame (Esthetique) during concerts, songs, etc. when doing his "passage". His face was also known because of the way he was dancing or playbacking in videoclips of Quartier Latin. I was really dissapointed when he left, because I saw him like the face of Quartier Latin. I wanted to see him for a long time like Binda Bass without leaving. He returned for a short moment in 2005, but he hadn't the same impact anymore.


Titina Al Capone, was in my opinion not putting the same energy in Quartier Latin as drummers, because he didn't come with alot of new drum partitions like he used to in Wenge 4x4 & Wenge BCBG. But I choose for him, because from the day he came until he left, the sound of Quartier Latin was always topnotch (something which wasn't always in case in Quartier Latin) in concerts.


Ramazani, I could have chosen for Do Akongo (but he was a solo-artist before joining Quartier Latin), Suzuki Luzubu who came from Flash Musica like most members of the second generation 1991-1997 (yeah he contributed alot behind the scenes and the secret of the studio). But I choose for Ramazani, because he filled along with Fofo Le Collegien the big void that was left by Beniko Popolipo. Like Fofo, he didn't stay long, but there was a young Mbetenge Domingo who already started working with them and contributed alot in the preparation of Monde Arabe (he didn't got the opportunity to travel with QL to record Monde Arabe with them).

Ferre Gola, because he brought Quartier Latin on another dimension. Quartier Latin was like the other bands of that era full with stars. The generation of Fally was on his heigt from 2001 until 2003. But they lost in my opinion a little bit of magic when Bouro Mpela left, because the combo Fally-Bouro was like ying-yang. But when Bouro left there wasn't a good balance anymore, having also lost the big names Fofo Le Collegien & Ramazani who stayed in Europe. The moment Ferre Gola joined Quartier Latin created a huge buzz with the singers-front line becoming a dreamteam (Shella Mputu who joined a year earlier and the talented new singer Mirage Supersonic). Koffi Olomide started proudly on tv bragging about his team, praising both Ferre and Fally often. Unfortunately Ferre's arrival created for tensions in Quartier Latin (there was already a cold war going on in Quartier Latin since 2003) and most members (Fally, Soleil, Jipson,etc.) had already their artistic maturity. So it made Quartier Latin explode in no-time like a bomb. Funniest part of the story is that Ferre Gola was the first guy to leave Quartier Latin by not more showing up in concerts anymore, being unhappy that Koffi still didn't pay the rest of his money and started to humilate him in his last rehearsal when Bouro rejoined (calling Bouro the most expensive transfer of Quartier Latin, while it was Ferre).
