I’ve been listening to the EPs “Henriquet” and “Elle et Moi” today where it’s basically all him with Rigo Star and Manu Lima supporting him on instrumentals. Absolutely brillant and some his best works to date. Those EPs made him a superstar long before QL became an institution

I grow up listening to Koffi's songs before he created QL, because my mother was a big fan and that's all she listened to. The man is just pure genius.

Yeah Koffi doesn’t get the credit he rightfully deserves his early work before QL is just beautiful.

Koffi without QL, isn't a problem at all. From 1984-1992 he was putting out strong albums. The way I love ngobila featuring Josky isn't a joke. The Henriquet and Elle Et Moi albums are 10/10. He's deffo surviving.

That band made big musicians like Sam Mangwana, Ndombe Opetum, Keisse Diambu, Mbilia Bel, Dino Vangu, Seskain Molenga, Lokassa Ya Mbongo, Shaba Kahamba, the list is long.

We have performed multiple times at LSC and Bataclan, but not Olympia and the other mythic halls. Quartier Latin made Koffi reach another dimension. If Quartier Latin didn’t exist then Papa Wemba or Clan Wenge would have performed here in the early 2000s. Now its a joke to perform at Olympia and at some point at Zenith, but back in the days it wasn’t easy also you had to mobilize whole Europe (London, Paris, Brussels, etc.) to perform there.

That’s what i talking about.
Because the public didnt came only to watch koffi performs.
Thay wanted to se bouro, fally, depitcho ect dancing.
They wanted to hear everyones vocal lives.
They wanted to see thoses talented boys who are in video clips.
And, no ql = no ultimatum, magie & droit de veto wich boost Also koffi’s career et popularity.
So i dont think he would performs at zenith or bercy or other big concert hall in europe and africa.
He wouldnt also had 4 koras.
So maybe he would be more humble lol

Without QL, Koffi would've run out of steam by the early/mid 90's. Koffi needed QL to become a big star. He woud've been a recognized ad highly praised musician, but not the household name we know today. Those QL boyz (and female dancers!) put in a lot of work for Koffi to be who he is today.

You're right about Werra. As Adolph said, without the first WMM team, he would be in Canada working in a potato field. Those boyz saved him.

No man is an Island. Yes Koffi started making music before creating a group of his own but I truly doubt he would have been this big without the input of QL.

It's the combination of artistes, composers etc as a band that his music became diverse attracting a while big spectrum of fans.

Not everyone who is a fan of Koffi liked him from the start, maybe some fans were initially attracted by particular instrumentalists or singers and got hooked to the band.It's the same for every other artiste out there

Koffi was a darling to many way before the QL we know today. I am of those who didn't like the reduced number of vocals Koffi would have in when QL was introduced. It took time to get used to the new Tcha tcho. The Papa plus and the Maggie videos did make QL members popular ( in Zambia) let alone the interviews in the LOI video added another dimension.  Koffi is Koffi, a real legend but like anybody else we all have a human side that is different from the beautiful god side we were born with. Over the years, one will love different songs from different artists, music evolves and so do the demands on an artist to stay relevant. Koffi has passed with an A+ considering his discography and general appeal. His voice is known by different generations in many Countries... Songs like SAUVE QUI PEUT, ECOLIERE, ALIDOR or ELLE ET MOI... The list is too long, the Sebenes are too many....

That is a very Valid point, he created a formidable force, the combination of musicians who complimented each other so well was not by accident, it was a well thought out deliberate plan. And it took him a lot of time to coach them and make them deliver on what he wanted. Remember the Ferre Interview where he said it was very difficulty for him during the recording of Sylivie and how Kofi was Mad at times when Ferre was not doing what Kofi wanted.

The same can be said to Werrason, that he was lucky to have the dream team, again that was not lucky, In Wenge Original Werrason was credited for recruitment of  musicians like Tutu Caludge,  Mpela etc. and being the strategist of the Band  My view is that some of the musicians who ended in Maison Mere were the one who were lucky. They wouldn't make it without being in Maison Merre, I am sure even if Werra had selected Genta in Place of Bill, Genta could have been as popular as Bill was. This can be proved by comparing Bill's Cries in Maison Merre and what he has done after his departure.

Both Werra and Kofi weathered a Storm of loosing Musicians who went to form their own Bands, but still they managed to recruit other young stars and soldier on. I know some people will ask me, why are they not doing the same now, the answer is clear. They have no energy and desire to mentor and coach young Musicians any more. They spend less time in Practise than before.

I will ask you the same question: why did he recruit all these musicians if he was already great and complete by himself.

And please, let's not try to rewrite history. Before QL, Koffi was a known musician but he was not the big superstar he became in the mid 90's with QL.

So, without QL, Koffi would not be the Koffi we know today. The 80's Koffi reached a plateau and would've been unable to compete with the Wenge generation or even Defao and Big Stars.

It seems like we've been mentally trained to unconsciously attribute all the music we hear to the leader, despite most of this music being the result of a collective effort. Magie, Noblesse Oblige, V12 or LOI are collective work. They are the work of a band. They would not exist without QL.

Koffi owes a substantial part of his success to QL.

Koffi is Koffi... Let's not value the egg and insult the chicken.... Noblesse oblige made everyone " including  the YOs danced, people who never paid attention to the genre"only Malewa by Werra, Etat Major by Extra, Ndombolo by JB, Nzinzi by Emeneya, Mario, Massu by Franco, Muzina and Shauri yako by Tabu lay are the some songs that can be remembered.   Many people know koffi.... Even the ex biggest stars of QL were not known before joining QL,some have struggled to build a career after QL apart from polemic. Let's enjoy the music and be happy that not all legends are dead. At least a legend is still singing about COVID19....
