Just came out, very positive documentary on MAÎTRE Gims. Positive for Congolese music too

Yo, just saw my cousin watching it on Friday. I'll try not to spoil it too much in case anyone else wants to check it out, but there's an interesting bit where Maitre Gims heads back to Kin and he announces a special event there.

Bro we need to support Congolese people regardless, for example you know how 69 got a billion views on his songs? Because Latin pushed him up (other than bought views of course) and we need to do the same Maitre has worked with Niska and made a Congolese song called Sappe Comme jamais which became his most famous song, and Niska and Naza, and KeBlack speak many times Lingála on their music the same goes for BM and the other Congolese abroad, even if he doesn't do Congolese music, having a Congolese lingála speaker guy on Netflix on a documentary is a big accpmplishment

I agree with Manzambi, this is a first for a Congolese musician...till today he never got the French nationality. Still travels on a Congolese passport. These guys need our support. If Koffi , Ferre or Fally had the same accomplishment they would have gone crazy about it. Nevertheless they all need our support to the max.

I don't say we should not support him. But I think our genre needs more support than Gims. French people support Gims enough.

And Gims is still congolese because France refused to gove nationality since he has 2 wives. Gims lives in Morocco and is Moroccan in his head...

I'm not against Gims. I'm happy for Gims as a brother.

But we need to be clear: what Gims is doing has nothing to do with our culture. Gims is not doing congolese music.

69 did a billion because Hispanics kids in the US pushed him. Yes. But more than that, spanish artists doing spanish music in spanish are racking billions and billions of views, more than 69.

Happy to see a Congolese on Netflix, not sure if its the first such documentary or movie on the platform. Such artists deserve our wholehearted support, even if the choice of music is not fully compliant with congolese music. I just see the trend moving towards, non-lingala songs. The fans want to listen and understand what is being said.
