Guy Guy Fall - Côte Quest: I have this CD but had not listened to it for 10 years. So today I mined it out from my collection, and wow. I realized why I have remembered it as one of the best albums I have. But listening to it also made me sad. It offers so much more excitement than whatever the Extra clan released since 2007. These guys today are just really far from their 90's self. And it's a shame. Take these two tracks below, for example. And these are just a few of the many good tracks on the album. Not like today, when we find 1 or two on an album. Feel free to debate with me, everyone has the right to express their opinion. But mine is this.

Good to know these things. I know Congolese musicians have and had lots of problems moneywise, but actually this time when I wrote "lazy", I meant lazyness in creativity. According to what you write Guy Guy had problems even when recording Cote Quest, yet he managed to make a good album. If you take Roga, Sonor or others at this moment, maybe they still have lots of problems, yet they are releasing stuff. If so, why can't they sit down and do it at they level they did it before. Even on new albums, you can hear they have the techical stuff provided, singers are there, musicians are there, yet what comes out is so far away from the records from the 90's. I am just complaining about this because what I see among Congolese musicians I personally know is: even if they receive enough money to release their stuff, they did not do it at the level as we got used to from them. Whatever the reason is, whether they are no more motivated  or something else, it seems it is not just the money that is a problem. I agree though, that the money problem, that you mentionned, is just making the problems in this case bigger. To keep bands together money was definately a source of problems too.

I think that they didn't necessarily allow him to scam them, its just that they were young and naive and didn't know the ins and outs of music industry so for them they saw a producer as someone to be trusted no matter what and this still happens even now. Thing is the producers prey on ignorant artists to shortchange them out of their financial rights musically.

I agree with at @Bencuri, Congolese music in general is suffering from a lack of creativity. Artists are in a hurry to release below par music which fades away in less than a month. Money or producer problems will always be there but its that little effort that will make an artist be known and their music appreciated for a long time because its good music. Artists nowadays are just comfortable releasing anything as long as they collect mabangas from donors. They don't care whether the song is a flop or not. Maybe donors shud put a condition to say a song released in my name shud be able to make pipo dance to it even 5 years later. Lol

lol bro these guys must be putting mad spells on some donors,some of the high quality clips you see now its the the donor who pays first owning the song,then mabanga of his close ones,then the clip done on one island somewhere or whatever,then you'll seem pretending they spent a lot of money on their album and be rocking new cars 
the creativity issue i think its also due to complex,fans are convincing artists that the two main sides of congolese popular music rumba and sebene is outdated so the guys just release and hope for the best,another major thing which is understimated,the lack of full studio sessions in europe it was giving musicians mad motivation,imagine for example signature of cultura was finished in 11 days,yes eleven days,while the albums done between kin brazza and europe take minimum one year
also the impact of the street in our music is now almost marginal,its 100 times harder for today's atalakus to find strong inspiration in the streets than it was in the days of caludji,ekokota,bill celeo genta cnn mboshi and co

Thats a sad situation for the genre. I think the fans are also hypocrites, lol. What do they listen to during those concerts in Kinshasa if not the same rumba and sebene that they discoraging the artists to produce.
