Why do leaders prefer Lofombo ? are the others incompetent?


it's rare that Lofombo plays for Jb or Koffi

The most are incompetent having difficulties to play bass like it has to be through the songs. But that's nothing wrong with it. On Noblesse Oblige Koffi invited Ngounda Lokito to help the then young Rocky Blanchard. Later they didn't need Ngouma Lokito, because there was Beniko Popolipo who was coaching the guitarists and bassplayers in Quartier Latin, Beniko Popolipo played btw bass on some songs in V12 (for example Aspirine).

The different with bassplayers of the 5th generation is that they dont go to the elders to coach them or tell them some secrets, like for example Tosha Fulakanda of Viva La Musica used to do. Also back in the 90s, bassplayers like Pathy Bass, Dello Bass, Motingia Tunga, Lofombo and co would meet each other to exchange some ideas.

i think its also due to the mentality now,if for example wallo bass meets mabuma,there will always be somebody secretly or willingly filming and posting and either the fans or the leaders could  interpret it very badly and lead to suspensions
they'd rather their musicians are like emany who always tries to attack ferre musicians whenever he comes across them

He's blaming the wrong person. Lofombo has been playing for lots of Congolese artistes in studio since time immemorial. Maybe it's because he understands theory so he plays the partitions and arranges quickly the way the owners of the bands want the partitions. I believe most of the guitarists in Congo play by the ear so struggle to get it right first time that's why you find that the likes of Lofombo, Olivier Tshimanga and others who know theory also arrange albums in studio and are called upon by various artistes.

WTF. This guy is a moron. Lofombo is actually a hard working man. As others said, he knows music very well and does a great job being a great bass. No wonder JB, Werrason, Madilu, Koffi and others want him to play on their projects. Tolo Tolo is a epic moron. What a loser.

He did not attack Lofombo. He actually has a point, but he should blame the leaders more than Lofombo. Groups should also give space to musicians to get better. The knowlegde is not being passed on.

Honestly Lofombo has a drive, and you cant blame him for the work he does.
So far I dont know of any other bassist right now who is better than Lofombo. What I learnt on the Congolese music scene is that whenever you play good, okolala nzala te...reputation and hard work pays off...its rare to hear Lofombo insulting others...the guy is mature enough to do his thing and being appreciated. I find that losing his wife made Lofombo even more determined to play more and be better at his job. Batika yo dit...
