The part of Werrason being the guest of Extra Musica’s Zénith killed me. That must have been very humilting the way Bill, Céléo & Werrason stole the show.It seems that Extra invited everybody, like a festival  because Papa Wemba, Koffi Olomidé also came as guest (The late Jacob Desavarieux of Kassav also present.

I felt that this interview was unnecessary long and it’s clear that Ado Yuhe didn’t do a lot of the research the way he asked the question when coming to the history of Extra Musica. The way Ado was surprised about +242 not being a rumba-album already said everything, because all Extra albums were sebene-albums except those Roga Roga solo-projects. Maybe it’s also because of the Extra gave it’s image from Trop C’est Trop in Kinshasa. Because back then they just only promoting their genetics and main rumba-songs (Probleme sur Problems & l’Oublier) in Kinshasa tv-channels, which made Doudou Copa getting a big notoriety in Kinshaaa

Sonor says he did not join extra musica he was there before the group officially started he was the youngest of them so he is not mentioned among the co founders but in reality he is,when the group started in 1993 he switched from dancing role in cogiex stars to reserve of espe bass
then as it went on he got asked about the split 4 years later and he said quentin was unhappy about the way things were going inthe group and he wanted to claim a bigger power as the group's president which did not go well with the other guys, and he remembers a concert of conakry in guinea where he could have been left behind as he was still reserve but roga gave him regis touba's ticket and told him to go and sit in the plane and regis came to airport having no ticket while he came with people to say goodbye to him,he was humiliated like that by roga as he was on quentin's side and during the concert the guys were dissing each other
he remained with roga's side after the split out of loyalty to his big bro as he'll insist a couple of times in interview that he knows roga since he was 3 years old and now he's 44
he then went to rhythm role as durell left and there was a position to fill
like mfumu said he talked about zenith in 2001 which had werra as guest and werra came with bill and celeo who stole the show jumping around the stage and shouting werra's name as if it was werra's concert
he said he went to solo role after the departure of doudou copa, oxygene, rossen, kerson, bastin as him roga espe and ramatoulaye discussed the fact singers started to break harmony of the group as only levyson and hermann  were left as certified first team singers and roga convinced them and they agreed that to ensure stability of the group even if singers leave again,he should move to lead singer role, and he jokes that they did not know that after claiming authority onthe singers,he'd claim such a radical authority against them aswell
he also denied that it was roga who taught him to play guitar,in fact it was leo bvegadzi, who happens to have taught the whole original guitar backline of extra musica to play,he then benefitted from roga's experience during his time with him
he was asked about money and he said there was no salary they were paid when roga was in good mood for that
then they jumped to the last moments before the last split, and  he talked about their concert in paris with combattants trouble
and he said its the worst period of his life as he collapsed at hotel due to very high blood sugar issues
prior to that he was given 100 euros,to give less than 5 euros to each member of the delegation
after collapsing he had to go without a train ticket, barely standing on his feet to a distance of 35kilometers to go where roga was living and when he arrived and showed the papers to roga, roga belittled it saying its not a big deal it happens he'll be fine and he went back to hotel without a single cent of roga and roga never asked if it was improving, when he went to hospital they wanted to keep him in france for 3 months for treatment but he refused out of blind love and loyalty to roga as other guitarists except espe ran away so if he stayed too thats 90 per cent of the guitar line missing,he then asked for money from brazza and they sent him 1000 euro for treatment since hedid not have insurance in france which would have made it much cheaper
they had to be paid 20 cars from "semi-billionaire" donor willy etoka before their return to congo but only 3 4 of the guys received and not him  not ramatoulaye, and as the chef he knew the amount was more than enough to build those cars and ship it to congo and there would still be money left but it did not bother him much
even though he had of course bigger need for money given age and everincreasing responsability he was more concerned with roga's behaviour,he remembers a concert of campaign of sassou in one of the little cities of congo where roga got paid 19000 euros and the way roga gave  the members 100 euros each then went to his car then out then in again and it would be the bodyguard calling him and ramatoulaye to go to roga's car and roga threw the envelope on his chest and it falled on the floor and there was 380 dollars and ado is trying to tell him  you should be happy to receive that and that if kin musicians hear that he received "that much" for one concert they will be in disbelief, and he said its more the way he was given that money that hurt him but also, you dont give your 27 years long loyal soldier that treatment, and eventhe payment it was like they shared 1K among the whole group while roga had 18K all for himself,he repeats he's not too driven by money but there are reality catching you that when you are in such a big group pretty much the whole family's eyes are on you to help them
and he remembers he went to see roga in private and was almost having tears in his eyes, and asked him if he had done anything bad to deserve the treatment he was receiving off late and roga said maybe you are right i can make mistakes at times, while in reality roga took it very very badly that one of the guys dared talk to him about his feelings and started organising some of the studio activities without him knowing and members of the group telling him not to come or roga could humiliate him hard
earlier on in the 242 studio roga told to transform every of the songs from rumba to make sure none of the singers has enough lead time to shine much, then pretended in front of musicians  that it was sonor's decision and they had to obey while it was himself
before roga went to france prior to the recent split, roga's behaviour became worse and worse he started talking very bad to them in front ofthe reserve members and told them too that whoever is not happy can leave the group and come challenge him
when they started studio of patati patata he went to roga's car to talk to him and as soon as roga saw it was him he car glasses went up and he drove fast to leave and same happened to espe and rama
when he was about to leave for paris, and they all had received money for mabanga roga singlehandedly decided that zero shoutout would be done in brazza and he'd be doing it in paris and was mocking them that they had to "throw up" money back to fans and donors, which got them angry
zaparo was the first to leave and go to russia, then etats unis sent  him a message to inform him he was leaving and he informed roga who could not give a damn about it
he was asked whether roga tried to save the group and he said yes but it was too late too much damage was done, and also roga did not call himself but sent people to do it which does not have same influence
nouvel horizon then started initiated by espe bass as president of the group in order to record songs to make up for the mabanga customers who were threatening them but to their surprise espe went back
so they are continuing without a president to try avoiding leadership issues, ado asked but how come two of the guys have left and he says he says somebody's heart is like a coffin, only him can know his deepest feelings,so you cant control somebody 100 per cent
and when a group succeeds it can feed egos that this success is due to some individuals rather than the collective force so they'd target a bigger part of the cake  according to their own estimation which can make them go solo to have the whole cake to them
they are realising an album of 13 songs,8 rumbas and the rest dance songs by the end of november
Ado of  course asked the question about dancers, whether there was a law for musicians not to date dancers, and he said no since roga himself was dating them to sleep them, and he is asked whether he also did it and he said his case is different he fell in love for a dancer and went to see her family to do everything required to take her at home with himand they have one kid together which pleased ado a lot  and ado joked that he is kakol's colleague in having a dancer as his wife
and ado asked whether he forced her to retire, and he said no there is no need to do that being a dancer is not a shameful job proof is that she's a better more supportive wife than his exes who were not into music, you  just have to trust each other, she's passionate about music so forceing her to retire would be selfish, danceing makes her happy so its better to let her continue to have fun,of course naturally one day she'll stop herself

Ado was ill prepared for this interview. I take it he is not a keen follower of Brazza music scene but a bit of research would have helped him. No mention of the departeure of Oxygen and others, no followup question on the real reason why Doudou Copa left, No mention of why Arafat left, no followup question on why Regis Touba had to be left at the airport with Sonor being asked to get in the plane with Regis Touba's flight ticket.

Lol. Ado should stop asking people what brand of clothes someone is wearing. He should just end at complementing. Sonor was very uncomfortable at the end. The other artist who didnt like being asked such was Canter Nyboma.

According to Sonor Digital, he didn't go into details when asked about Doudou's departure preferring only to say "alongwaki parce que tango naye ekoki ya kosala career solo" while we know that he was pushed out because he was becoming too popular which Roga Roga didn't like.

The video doesn't have alot of views because many people from Kinshasa don't know who Sonor Digital is nor Roga Roga. There also alot who hate people Brazzaville about what happened 6 years ago.

There were already problems between Roga Roga and Doudou Copa since 2002, because of the way Roga Roga started become jealous of the way Doudou became like a main start of the group (Guy-Guy Fall, Regis Touba & Abilissi all went trough this) and Doudou Copa on his side also becoming kind of big headed which made it worser. There was a point that Doudou Copa was about to leave, but they reconciled and he came back. I think that's from that point that Roga was motivated to become a main singer, doing already alot of mabanga in the main rumba Epaka and the generique Obligatoire, singing the main-rumba Aigle Imperial and the song Racines 2 on his own.  It's not for nothing that Roga Roga said in one of his songs in the Kindoki-album something like "Chauffer asali lofundu, passager akumbi motuka, chauffeur azangi mosala". Doudou Copa was already preparing his solo-album in private. I remember Papy Bastin saying in an interview with Papi Soul, that he, Rossen Yaourt and Kerson Saddam followed him and asked him to form a group. But him saying that he already received money from donors to record songs for them and that they could join him, but that it would be album with 10 songs of him and them each having 1, which Papy Bastin and co refused and made them stay in Extra Musica a few months longer. Until that that they convinced Oxygene to start a band along with Espe Bass and Ramatoulaye (the last two changed their mind of the last minute)

What have happened 6 years ago?

So all that success Extra had was actually from West and Central Africans who listened to their song rather to be known in DR Congo? Because tbh at least in my community which is made mainly by Langas Angolans (Angolans who can't or struggle to speak Portuguese and speak Lingala and gave more ties with Congo then in Angola, like me who I am Angolan but can't speak Portuguese but have no ptoblem speaking in Lingala)  full Congolese people (people who are just From DR Congo and some people or two (like 5 to 6 families) from Brazza Extra Musica are not wide known but people dance when their song comes into the clubs.

Going back to the Doudou Copa thing it made sense he was starting to becoming a bigger influence and had more and more space him, Oxygène, Papy Bastin that guy who is one the number 3 in Extra Musica the guy with short hair who dances along the guy with braids who bleaches in BoKoko at 1:12 to me were the best singers along with this guy whom I don't know the name at
3:33

With that said Doudou Copa and Oxygen to be honest were the most gifted vocally what killed Doudou Copa in reaching a bigger succès was that he was trying too much to sound Like Koffi Olomide especially in his album Posso were the start of the générique reminds a Koffi Generique at 00:15

To be honest it sounds a lot like a b version of Skol Longitima
And not only he was copying Koffi in the générique department but also in the rhumba department and that killed any chance of being more successful than he actually is, but I do remember that his first or second album was a huge success in Brazza MENU with Pondu Ya Limbondo being his biggest hit

But then something got broken and now despite doing decent music  he doesn't get half of the recognition he got with that Menu album

What does Bolos mean by the way?

I can't imagine what was said or promised to Espe Bass to return to Roga Roga, because if they were really friends than there wouldn't be problems of payment for years. I can't believe Roga would treat his childhood friends so badly...at least with the others, he met them as an adult but Epse and Sonor they go back as small kids and worked together to create a beautiful career. It's sad how success can change people

The singer at 3:33 on the second video is Kerson Saddam, he was originally with Z1 International. He sings at 2:34 in this song.

Extra Musica became famous because of Zacharie Bababaswe who brought them to Kinshasa for the Variete Samedi Soir. It is from there that people in Zaire and Congo Brazzaville knew them. Kongolo Mobutu also liked them and put them in Ecurie Yoshad, for their promotion in Kinshasa. Their first two albums were a big succes in Kinshasa and especially the second one Confirmation with Guy-Guy Fall being the main start. The style of the music they used to make was very close to Wenge Musica 4x4 and it's because of that people in Kinshasa started to see them as copycats, an image that Extra never could get rid of them in Kinshasa. You will notice that Ado Yuhe would try to link some questions to Wenge Musica, which would annoy Sonor Digital a little bit. For example the one of Wenge's split, Ado thinking that it influenced them, while it had totally nothing to do with that.

Ferreol Gassakys  connections made them get big promotion in West-Africa in no time and after a few even getting mre popular then Wenge Musica over there. But in Kinshasa it wasn't the case, there was  not a label that was promoting their music like Ecurie Yoshad used to do. Zacharie Bababswe and Serge Kayembe who were following them closely would promote their generics and main rumba's in Kinshasa, but it wasn't like the way their first two albums were promoted. Another thing is that people from DR Congo see themselves as suprior towards people of Congo Brazzaville, because of their rich music-history. Which mades it rare to see someone of DR Congo really spend them to listen to music of Congo Brazzaville. Unless they do alot of effort to make good music, Congolese people will automatically see them as copycats of their stars and not be taken serious. But you had sometimes tracks that had big succes in Kinshasa like l'Argent appelle l'Argent & Ce n'est que ma secrétaire of late Pamelo Mounka, Eden of Theo Blaise Kounkou, Misengué of Pierre Mountouari, etc.

Also to make succes in Kinshasa, you have to be Kinshasa-based unless you are Papa Wemba (who used be Europe-based from 1987 until 1996, but return every back to Kinshasa). It not for nothing that bands and solo-artists who started in Europe always settle to Kinshasa.

Doudou Copa's first 4 albums (Echfaudage, Indepedance Day, Evolution & Menu) were a huge succes in Congo Brazazville. Some of his rumba's had also succes in Kinshasa . Doudou was at that time seen as a heir of Koffi's Tcha-Tcho style and seen as the Koffi Olomidé of Brazzaville. Koffi used to praise him sometimes in the press back in those days.  Roga Roga couldn't sleep well in those years and both guys would attack each other in songs. The thing that killed Doudou Copa were problems with his excecutive producers who weren't promoting his album like it should be, Doudou then also refusing to do the promotion with his own money, time changing with streaming music, health issues, his time in prison, etc.

There always had been some hate towards people from Kinshasa since Tshombé's order to expluse people of Brazzaville in 1964 for political reasons. Tshombe was from Katanga, so he surely didn't knew that connection of people from Brazazville & Kinshasa of Batéke and Bakongo (Lari & Bantandu). While many of them used to live in Kinshasa already before the independence, having properties, etc. many even being born there, raised up. Someone coming from Brazzaville, but having cousins in Kinshasa and vice-versa. In the 70s it became worser, because gangsters who were making Kinshasa unsafe also creating havoc in Brazzaville. When the economic crisis came in Zaire, many youngsters decide to settle in Brazzaville to make money and for a better life. But it created kind of tensions and jealousy, for the way women would prefer often guys coming from Kinshasa or women not understanting why men from Brazzaville would often prefer to marry someone coming from Kinshasa. They have been holding that grudge for long and in 2014/2015 it came out explosion. In 2013/14 many kuluna's in Kinshasa were killed (also alot of innocent youngsters) when Colonel Kanyama came with Operatio Likofi to get rid of them. Many fled towards Kongo-Central, Bandundu and Brazzaville. In Brazzaville Kuluna's also started to create havoc. So politicans and the police decided to come with Operation Mbata ya Bakolo to get rid of them in Brazaville. But During that operation police and the population profited to finally to let go the grudge they were holding for decenia against people from Kinshasa by killing, rapping and abusing innocent people who were settled in Brazzaville. Around 130.000 people who used to live in Kinshasa were send back to Kinshasa in bad conditions. For years they were living in bad conditions in Kinshasa, because the governement won't help them. Many decided to live at the abadon stadium Stade Cardinal Malula. It's from there that many people of Kinshasa started to dislike people from Brazzaville.
