I don't know why but Bozi compared to Papa Wemba and people of his generation get slept on a lot, the same for Dindo Yogo, Diblo Dibala, Franco Lassan, Djouna Mumbafu etc.

Boziana was from 1985 to 1990 on the height of his career and at some point even the biggest star, when Emeneya went down, Papa Wemba being based on Europe, the rest of the Congolese music-industry only consisting bands Choc Stars, Zaiko Langa Langa, etc.) no solo-star being left in Zaire  (except Koffi Olomide who was then not on the level yet that he would reach in the mid-1990s). The problem with Bozi Boziana was that he was some point to much focused on promoting female singers alot instead of male singers, which some fans turn their back on him and at the same time Wenge Musica raising which was the new generation, Koffi Olomide slowly raising on the top with Quartier Latin that had Suzuki & Willy Bula, Empire Bakuba making a strong comeback. Bozi was still making hits with his girls, but his band was not really competing against other bands like it should.

So when Bozi started to notice it, he recruited Kabosé and Theo Mbala from Général Défao, musicians like Corean Polystar, Michaux Chamberton, Eric Lokombé, etc. but it was already to late. Concerts in Europe being mpiaka, his albums failing due to bad promotion, scary problems in the band (musicians becoming sick, some even losing their head, some even dying). Bozi then deciding to slow down from 2002 until this day.

Dindo Yogo on his side when he left Zaiko in 1991. People taught that he would succeed and also profited from massive support of his neighhboorhood Yolo, which missed a star since from the moment that Evoloko decided to settle in Europe. But he unfortunately failed when starting his band Ngwaka Ayé and in Zaire it's difficult to succeed when he already failed from the start when people are excepting alot from you. After that he settled in Europe and started to do alot of session-work (Reddy Amisi, Alain Makaba, etc.), which made him lose some value in the eyes of people. You will notice that popular bandleaders barely. Because he had build some reputation of being a big songwriter and singer because of his career in the early 70s when having his band Etumba na Ngwaka, the moment that he was part of Viva La Musica's dreamteam with Emeneya, Debaba, Djuna Djanana, Esperant Kisangani, etc. (1978-1981). The famous Langa Langa Stars (1981-1984) and Zaiko Langa Langa.


 apa Wemba at some point saying when meeting him in the studio when recording Reddy's Prudence "When I told you not to leave Viva La Musica, you didn't want to listen. Look at you now and now are singing with children like Reddy Amisi". He would sometimes return back to Kinshasa to have concerts with his band and a few recordings until he died in 2000.

Mfumu Vata made an interesting point. All these stars of the 80's faded in the 90's because they could not launch successful bands of their own. On the opposite side, those who came from the 80's and succeded had successful bands: Koffi and Defao. Kester is in the middle: his band was too much instable for him to go back to the top like in the 80's, but he did better than a kot of his 80's colleagues like Dindo.

The exception here being Madilu who became a relatively big household in the 90's without having a proper band.

I think the problem for Bozi started when the line-up of the band changed in the beginning of the 90's. Maybe he underestimated the importance of the selection of musicians or I don't know. But he definately deserves a prize for his work in the 80's and beginning of 90's.

Musicians like Yaya Londa, Fofo le Collegien, Volvo Lukeba, Pathy Moleso, Adricha Tipo Tipo, Thierry Synthé, Rio Kazadi, Babel, etc. were members of his band. But Madilu didn’t want to give them a chance to record songs or tour in Europe. He would pre-record his album in Kinshasa at Studio Meka and letting session musicians like Ngouma Lokito, Syrian Mbenza, Dally Kimoko record his albums. Fans were liking his concerts in Kinshasa and a tourpromoter even came to Kinshasa for a contract in Europe, they also received visa’s. However Madilu ended up by refusing on the last minute.Fans and journalists then started to put  pressure on him, to give  his musicians a chance and tour with them in Europe.It made Madilu record the tracks Simon, Sa Majeste & Nakombo of Pouvoir in Kinshasa and even signing with a tourpromoter for a tour in Kinshasa. But he gave his musicians a false hope, by mocking them in the same album “kopesa bango visa te, sinon bako ya ko kima” and abandoning them in Kinshasa without informing them. He stayed like 2 years in Europe, until he came back after Bonheur and calming them down by letting them record their own album Le Tenant du Titre, but most talented musicians already left at that time. The ngulu-affair came, which gave Madilu the opportunity to come with another excuse to not come with his musicians to Europe and the album flopped very hard.

Why despite the pressure from fans and journalists he refused to give them a chance? Not only he paid the session musicians while if he used his musicians he probably would have used them without paying them since they were young guys and didn't probably care about Money that much. Plus how did he react when he flopped? Was he angry or he understood that It was his fault? Plus Will Fabro end that way? Becuase people on social media are siding on Fabro's musicians Who left. Probably because the various interviene of Ado Yuhe shined a light on what really goes on on Congolese groups. Plus going back to Mfumu Vata's answer about Fabro Who already have Little credibility left. Why he has that? What was the causing factor for that loss of credibility other than his comedic tones and the awful Brenda's live he made on that Ivoirian TV?

Because he was treating them like animals. He felt that they would all run away when being in Europe. He used often to abandon them when touring in Africa, him going back to Paris and them being left alone without tickets and money to return. Musicians not being paid for months or being given peanuts while they spent months abroad. Just watch the interviews of former dancer Chibida Bibiche, musicians like Adricha, Yaya Londa and Fofo  le Collegien. Mamale once said that Koffi was about to pay the musicians of Quartier Latin and Madilu being surprised when visiting him, having something like “what ??!! Do you pay them?” And saying “don’t pay them and watch if they would leave”. Koffi then ending up by not paying his musicians and none of them leaving, despite being pissed off.

Yep, Madilu was a very greedy, stingy, "maboko makasi" type of boss. LOL.

Wasn't bozi affected by djo nolo's choc musica departure? That's why he preferred to promote girls.

What happened with the group of Kabosse, Theo etc... everyone left the band after their album.

About madilu and being stingy there is also some anecdote of mosaka which say a lot,one for example which i remember from an interview he did back like 5th anniversary of madilu's death as he was one of the writers in the last years of madilu and he said one day the musicians came when he was there with him to ask for money and he turned at them and asked how many kids they have  and he said "okay no problem you'll give me one children each for sacrifice then i will pay you"  it was in reality a way to scare them so that they forget ever asking him again

Djonolo's depature was a huge blow to Bozi, since that they left when he went to Europe. But, Bozi came strongly back when releasing Mon Mari est Gabonnais and recruiting new bandmembers like Lidjo Kwempa, Dodoli, Ngouma Lokito, etc. and his succes even becoming better than his first two years with Anti Choc. Not long after it all musicians who went to form Choc Musica with Djonolo ended up by returning back, including Djonolo himself.

Debaba didn't enter Viva La Musica. It was a nzong-nzing. He was still with Choc Stars until becoming a brother in christ in 1994, after that Choc Stars still wasn't to get back on the top since Defao's departure in 1991.




Like the way Bralima in 1990 asked Wemba for concerts in Kinshasa, Brazzaville and Matadi with Reddy, Luciana, Stino (he didn't show up) and his rival Emeneya along with Kinshasa based-musicians to promote their product Primus. The same way Unibra asked Wemba in 1993 to come back in Kinshasa for public concerts to promote their product Castel Beer. This time he went without a singer of Viva La Musica. He decdied. He decided to get Dindo Yogo and Debaba as singers and added his former instrumentalists Pinos, Dezay, Stella Uomo, Itshari and Gauthier Mukoka to his squad mixed with musicians of Thythy Le Vallois' band. The concerts were ok, but Unibra wasn't totally convinced. Which made Unibra require Papa Wemba to bring Viva La Musica "Made in France" with him in 1994, when giving Wemba a contract to promote their product Skol during public concerts. Viva La Musica also came along with Maika Munan and performed twice at Intercontinental, gave several public concerts in Kinshasa, but Papa Wemba did them dirty by not paying them well which angered guys like Gloria and co alot.

Even Reddy Amisi was mad. Since that Wemba's contract with Unibra for concerts at end of the year activities was 5 years. He returned back in 1995. But this time Reddy and Stino decided to abandon him, which made Papa Wemba being forced to get the same squad he used in 1993 along with Manda Chante, drummer Maradona of El Paris, Theo Bidens and Babel. Most of the musicians that took part of those concerts, participated to Reddy Amisi's concerts in Kinshasa, Pointe Noire and Brazzaville for the promotion of Prudence earlier that year and a national tour in Zaire for tobacco company Ambassade. It made fans claiming that Papa Wemba stole Reddy Amisi's musicians when forming Nouvelle Ecriture, forgetting that it wasn't a proper band and that they participated to Wemba's concerts of Kinshasa in 1993.

If I remember well, Yaya Londa said the same thing when talking about Madilu. If I remember well he said that they went with Fofo le Collegien to ask him money and Madilu asking Fofo for children to sacrifice which him being scared and run away. Yaya Londa staying with Madilu and Madilu being mad, since that he was asking for money because of making a girl pregnant.
