People tend to link Lacoste often to Djonolo and Lacoste used to praise Djonolo often in his first days as solo-artist, saying that he inspired him as singer and that he used to be one of his role-models along with JB Mpiana and Evoloko when starting singing and that he followed Djonolo's singing style. But in my opinion Lacoste's voice is more close to Makolin "Le Géant Catalogue" of Victoria Eleison, when Makolin hits the high notes. For me it's more Jipson Butukondolo's and Shella mputu's voice that are close to Give Djonolo.







Many music-fans tend to forget Makolin, who's already for 30 years a brother in christ. But it's just that Makolin didn't leave a big legacy of songs like Debaba, Carlyto and other singers of his generation. Because back in the days Makolin was seen as one of the best tenorists and singer. Being part of Ecurie VEVE that doesn't allow nzong-nzings and being a member of Victoria Eleison that didn't release alot of albums like Zaiko Langa Langa, Empire Bakuba and Choc Stars who were releasing like 4/3 albums each year, made him not having many songs on his name. Makolin had only two songs on his name (Angela & Pres de Moi). Sometimes I wonder if JB Mpiana wasn't a little bit inspired by his singing style.




 Victoria Eleison used first to record with 4 singers, but they came at a point where they were only recording songs with Emeneya and Makolin as duet and Emeneya's brother Joly Mubiala sometimes joining in. Sometimes I wonder why Emeneya never tought about doing a featering with Didier Lacoste or vice versa, to remind people about the Emeneya and Makolin duet.
