I heard that the main atalaku animating here became a pastor. Today almost everybody becomes pastor.

Champion Djikapela Esthétique was an excellent drummer. Here his drummer-style was more that of Awilo Longomba/Richacha Balengola of Viva La Musica and little bit left that of Titina Al Capone that he used to do in 1994 and 1995 behind. If I remember well his dream was to play one day with Viva La Musica and Wenge Musica. He even went for a test to Wenge Musica to be Titina's backup drummer in 1996, but the public prefered Seguin above him. Champion's departure to Quartier Latin the same year was a huge blow to the Laviniora Esthétique. I remember him, like Binda Bass saying that he wasn't really motivated to join Quartier Latin. But not long after that he would become one of Koffi's biggest friends and favorite. It's a shame that he didn't last long in Quartier Latin. I always feel that he could showcase his talents in albums more. But Koffi's songs were mostly programmed drums in the singing part. He made a lot of progess in Quartier Latin and created even a debate between people about who being the best drummer of Congo between Titina and Champion.

Papy Kaniama was a great solist. It's sad that he couldn't discover his talents a lead-guitarist in Wenge Maison Mère and Wenge Tonya Tonya, being there used a rhythm player.

Lavioniora Esthétique had strong defense (bass, drums, rhythm, lead). But their singing section was weak with Dakumuda being the only great singer. Sometimes I wonder if Dakumuda didn't had a Evoloko-syndroom, of only wanting weak singers around him. Because at that time there were multiple terrorists, great 2eme voix singers and 1ere voix singers. It would have helped Laviniora alot and make them stronger. Their rivals of Lemba, Lemba Musica had Bogus, Armand Ngolo (RIP) and that other great 2eme voix singer (If forgot his name).

Was this album recorded in Kinshasa or in a different African country. Who did produce this album for them ? The quality is really good. Most albums recorded in Kinshasa during that era, had a bad sound. Their producer probably brought a mobile studio.

I'm surprised he wasn't initially excited to join QL, wasn't Koffi considered a superstar even then? It seems like an upgrade for Champion to switch to QL. Why did Papy Kaniama leave Adolphe? He did an excellent job on the first album by Wenge Tonya Tonya, better than the rhythm guitarist they had for Mouna (I think Canard played rhythm)

Before the singing part on Fimbo Ezui Ezui came in, I was about to praise Dakumuda and Lavignora for releasing a 20-minute generique. I even made a meme out of it lol. I believe this album was recorded via a mobile studio in Kinshasa because the snare drum sounds like the one on Jugement Dernier by Wenge Kumbela.

Koffi sended his guys to Champion after a fara-fara concert with Laviniora, because he was impressioned by Champion's drumming skills. The guys saying to Champion that Koffi want him to join Quartier Latin because their drummer (Coco Tchomba) doesn't perform well.Binda Bass didn't even want to go, even didn't show up for a test and it was his mother who woke him up to go to Quartier Latin's rehearshal to do his test. Binda then doing his test the same day when Quartier Latin had to go to Europe for the V12-recordings and a tour there.

Koffi had succes with his albums. But he was also seen by many as imposter. Also many youngster had just Wenge Musica Papa Wemba and King Kester Emeneya as their rolmodels. Koffi was a hero for woman, the elite and intellectuals. Althought, making Magie, Pas de Faux Pas and Noblesse Oblige, people were still not giving him respect it even became worser, they said that he killed his original Tcha-Tcho music and was copying Wenge Musica. The funny thing is that they were the same people who weren't liking his music and claiming that they weren't hearing that he was singing.

Wenge Tonya Tonya was about to tour in Europe and the whole band received visa's. But then suddenly Dakumuda showed up and said that he would bring him to Europe. Back then Dakumuda was bringing alot of ngulu's to Europe. I guess that he was thinking about they way they used to suffer in Laviniora years long (Papy used to be a member from 1991 until 1999) and could risk to miss that trip, having already missed Bercy with Maison Mère. Adolphe would later contact Papy to perform with him at Olympia which was his goodbye-concert of his tour there.

The rhythm guitar in Mouna was shared between Canard and Papillion who are both lead guitarists

Did Binda Bass also come from Laviniora Esthetique or another group? I'm surprised Koffi got a lot of criticism back then, because Wenge Muscia mostly was sebene. It's not like they had lyrics with deep meaning like King Kester or Papa Wemba. What's your favorite song from Dakumuda?

Madova has a long list of bands, Wenge El Paris, Lavioniora Esthétique, Nouvelle Alliance, Anti Choc, etc.

Wazekwa got some good songs throughout his career lol You don't remember Kito Epula or Texto, where Joss Diena had the vocals of "ahh, mokili yango liboma". I always say that he should have given more space to his singers like Wemba did on L'

I know his songs. But it’s not that I sing them from my head like songs of Koffi, Franco, Wemba and JB Mpiana. I am only possible to do that with Bonjour Monsieur and Complexe, which is due to the catchy refrain.

Do you think it's because Felix didn't use ghostwriters? I noticed that a lot of the more memorable songs from Wenge Musica and Papa Wemba used ghostwriters (Senado, Pascal Poba, Mosaka, Senado, Bogus Bopema, ect.)

It's possible. Maybe that the pressure of him was to high, because of being presented as former songwriter of Koffi and Wemba in the press , but him in reality being up after 3/4 solo albums while his fame came with Signature, him still wanting to prove that he's a big songwriter by writing all songs credited to him, but still not a massive rumba hit coming.

However, don't forget that arrangers like Maika Munan make a huge difference. A song can have less meaning, but due to the composition becoming a big hit.

Who arranged albums like Signature and Yo Nani? True, I wished Felix worked with Maika Munan. He helped Wenge Musica with Solola Bien, I believe he's better than Al Nzimbi. They should of asked for his help on A La Queue Leu Leu.

Djikapela killed it on this album - when the drum overpowers all the other instruments, then you got a great drummer.

Champion's versatility is extremely underrated
