Why did Koffi's tour in Australia not have a huge impact on social media/public/press ? It was the first time that a Kinshasa-based musician went to Australia for a serie of concerts. Before that it were only Soukous-artists that were going there Awilo Longomba, Kanda Bongo Man, etc. Koffi's tour in Australia didn't had the same effect/impact like when Papa Wemba & Zaiko went to Japan in 1986 or Pepe Kalle going to the West Indies in the late 1980s. People just reacted as like he had a normal show somewhere in Ivory Coast, Kenya, France or Germany. I wonder if it would have the same effect if Fally Ipupa went there.



Is it because of Koffi Olomide bringing Quartier Latin Fashion of Europe instead of Quartier Latin Internatioanl & Cindy to Australia ? Is it because of Koffi not having the same fame like 10/15 years ago ? Or is it because of Australia, having an African community and people seeing it not as special because of performing for our own community (concert ya ghetto)?

i would say because of quartier latin fashion which is clearly not a popular idea people want an authentic quartier latin and also because who he is in conflict with and how the pro him are an important amount of the impactful press,but yes after all man is two years away from 70 its even a miracle to be where he is now in the developed countries at that age you have been semi-retired at least for 20 years

In Congo there's no pension fund. Also it's a risky country, private business can collapose anytime. Next to it, when you retire, Congolese people like to disrespect you. Also don't forget that living with fame, is like drugs. Just look how many former American stars are depressed. Imagine how difficult it would be for someone that was for like 25+years on the top and witnessing how people disrespect you. With American and European people it's different they will still have alot of respect for you. I have a few times witnessed how people were saying that Dona Mobeti was finished when he passed by, the same for Bozi Boziana. I think that is the reason why Evoloko don't really like to hangout in nightclubs/restaurants/bars, etc. being already someone who's more on his self.

Papa Wemba witnessed the same thing in his last years. It's only when he passed away that people started to praise him, etc. calling him an "icon", because of journalist Claudy Siar calling him like that, most Congolese people not even knowing that word and using it now for almost every person "aza icon". Like the way, people now use the word ¨Legende" often after Koffi using it as album-title.

Papa Wemba didn't really mind about it, because he already witnessed it some stages in music-career being down. For example in 1984, when he decided to settle in Europe, being a bit depressed and demotivated. Which was because of the way he was struggling to have instruments to perform, his formerly employee Emeneya everytime talking bad about him in newsarticles and Victoria Eleison having mad succes in Kinshasa. When he came to Paris, many people of our community were disrespecting him and saying that he was finished. Papa Wemba wanted to abandon music at some point and was also seriously thinking about becoming a journalist. But it were the people around him, saying that he had not to abadon his passion. Then he recorded Proclamation with Stervos Niarcos, managed to buy a set of instruments and returned back to Zaire after staying for almost 7/8 months in Europe.

Going back to the subject, Congolese music also different than other music-genre. You can sleep and waking up the following day with someone calling you, giving you 10.000 or 5.000 to record a song for him or remix his favorite song. If have like 5 or 7 people like that, you will still keeping recording albums

exactly in congo there is only a very small percentage who go from rich to stable if things drop off a bit most go from an opposite to another so they always fear that koffi jb and werra have like 60 houses between them but they still never accept to be labelled millionaires they still feel they have something to secure money wise
