I rewatched the LSC concert, to see Beevans outfit, when he explained that he took it from their houseowner and Poupa Mado giving him fancy clothes after the concert.



I think that Beevans meant that they spent 5 weeks instead of 5 months in the America, because they just performed in Washington D.C., New York, Boston, Montreal and Quebec. Also they came in the summer to Paris to return back to Kinshasa in January 1995. That would have been impossible if they spent 5 months with the European and African tour dates he mentioned. I was surprised to hear that Quartier Latin went to Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and Lubumbashi after performing in Paris to comeback again and perform in other European countries. Normally, Koffi always wait until the end of the tour to go through al those concert. I noticed that many Congolese artist used to go to Portugal, but from the early 2000 they started to skip it. Was there a big Lingala-speaking in the past in Lisboa (people who came Kinshasa that tried to get into Europe through Angola and settling in Portugal some years before going to France or Belgium) or was it just because of many MPR-dignitaries and former Congolese soccer players living there ?

Kaps must have been disappointed to miss the opportunity to have some fun with those Puerto Rican girls in NYE “Bobebisi coop na nga” hahahahaa”. Or the story how they ran for their lives when a man pulled a gun towards them, when Babia started shouting to him to hurry up with the phone. The story about what happened to them after stealing towels at the Niagara Falls from Chinese sellers was a bit scary, that must have been Babia’s idea to do that.

I would like to see that Quartier Latin concert at studio Maman Ngebi without Koffi before V12, those images are rare.

What surprised me in this interview was to hear that Lebou Kabuya was about to run away, because of Babia and Augusto Nsingi having ran away, only to appear last minute when his brother convinced him to go back. Babia’s decisions and behaviour had a bad influence on the group. However, when Augusto Nsingi explained why he ran away, he said that it was because someone saying to him that Coco Tchomba and Tolin didn’t came back to Europe after the 1993-tour, which scared. So my thesis is that he ran away because of fearing that and him also being Rocky Blanchard’s back up like the way Coco Tchomba was that of Kaps. Not knowing that Koffi already had a plan to get slowly rid of Rocky Blanchard (he tried to recruit Pathy bass before the Magie-trip , who m finally joined after  Augusto ran away and before going back to Europe for V12 Koffi got Binda Bass). I would like to hear more about the V12-trip in part 3.

The way how Koffi tried to prevent Beevans to join Wenge Musica by visiting them at La Zamba Playa and saying what he said, made once again confirm my thesis of him getting Rocky Blanchard back into Quartier Latin to made him suffer after he joined Zaïko and heard that they were about to go to Europe. I wonder why Koffi suddenly started to hate Beevans that much, did he sleep with one of the dancers or his sidechicks or what. In this interview, apart the story of cars, he didn’t go into the many incidents like the previous interviews. That must have been felt really humiliating, coming with an idea and your boss adopting it by buying cars for all members that went to Europe except you. Or maybe Koffi was just mad that he said that they went Mercedes like Wenge Musica, although getting cars, it would still create problems. Because according Do Akongo in his interview with Ado Yuhe, when Wenge Musica came back from the Pentagone-trip with new Mercedes Benz cars, many musicians were frustrated during the African-tour of V12 and a kind of a rebellion starting, because they felt that they not making any financial progress despite having a big succes. But at some point, I can understand Koffi’s anger after years for those interviews and calling his artists ungrateful. Because Do Akongo for example didn’t reveal that Koffi bought cars for them before the African tour, like Beevans did here, although those cars not being Mercedes. If I'm not mistaken, that's why he's barely in Magie clips. I remember Babia being among the musicians stepping out of the limo in the generique, filmed in NY. But he's absent in the remaining clips filmed in Europe due to his arrest.

When did Wenge Musica try to recruit Beevans, didn't they already have Roberto Ekokota?

Yeah he got arrested when he tried to rejoin Quartier Latin. I heard stories that he got beaten by friends of the ex from the woman that he used to date it Switzerland, which he wanted to rejoin.

Talking about the clips. In the interview, Beevans releaved that they weren’t allowed to film, when they were shooting videos at the Statue of Liberty, so filmed secretly the part when they were dancing.

It was Beevans who wanted to join, but Didier Masela to told him that they don’t recruit musicians from other bands. But he kept coming until Koffi messed everything up. At that time Ekokota was not giving the full 100% anymore and Tutu starting to dominate the animation section

talking about rocky blanchard, today i saw a comment on his facebook about an extract of his interview with mbuta likasu where he said  his accident happened when called by koffi to come late in the night in studio at montfleury and when he had gone past jb's house and turned towards the road  of koffi's house he suffered a mystic attack and falled and broke his hand as if he was fighting with somebody trying to steal him and when he stood up to approach koffi's house koffi said he should come tomorrow because guitars are acting up that night then he explained to koffi what happened and koffi laughed because it looked like a movie and called cindy to come out to hear that story
and in that facebook extract somebody said that chado should apologize to nioka longo and give him back the guitar he went away with from zaiko because jossart did an interview where he clearly alluded that something would happen to him throughout his career if he does not hand it back(a bit like how he came to warn adamo and co about zaiko name)

I was disappointed because Koffi was always releasing albums of high quality. For me, the album sounding mediocre and I used to hate the “caisse claire”. But after some moment, I started to grow on that album and it became one of my favorites. The funny thing is that I also started to like the “caisse claire” alot, making me think Ilo Pablo and Meridjo in old Zaïko songs of the 1970s.

Koffi’s succes with Magie was really big and people comparing Beevans with Ekokota, also the polemique between Koffi and Wenge becoming bigger with people and the press saying that Koffi was copying Wenge 4x4. The only person missing out on the USA trip was Scola Miel, who decided to go back to Kinshasa, being fed up the way Koffi used to lock her and the dancers up in his house and also feeling comfortable in the band, the way the dancers used to hate her.

The only person missing out on the USA trip was Scola Miel, who decided to go back to Kinshasa, being fed up the way Koffi used to lock her and the dancers up in his house and also feeling comfortable in the band, the way the dancers used to hate her.


V12 got recorded in Juin and July 1995, when the tour was about to end. Thinking about what happened to Beevans, maybe it was also the anger about the way Kaps Kapangala ran away. Because apart Augusto Nsingi, Beevans really close to Kaps.Koffi always tend to punish musicians who were close to influential bandmember who leave. Remember how Brigade explained during Covid-19 in those live-sessions, that Koffi had some grudge towards him and Ile de Cambodge for the way Kerozene ran away and since the three were close with each other, Koffi reacted later by leaving them in Kinshasa for Monde Arabe. Or how he prepared 12 for Modogo and Sam Tshintu, because of Bouro and Lebou having remained in Europe and Mboshi & Binda later receiving the 12 (Binda was Bouro’s best friend).

I remember years watching an interview from a ghostwriter (who made Spaghetti for Do Akongo, the intro of Dossier du Jour for Koffi and the songs Zabalumbu & Sdf for Academia). He said that he was always entering Quartier Latin rehearsals but because of Kaps Kapangala running away and him being close to him, Koffi chasing him away from the rehearsal

Who was Fally's closest friend during his time in Quartier Latin? He doesn't really talk about his band members in the way that Sam does with Academia where you know the friendship has endured years – for Fally, maybe Felly Tyson.

Felly Tyson was more his vieux like the Champion Djikapela, Mamale, Savanet Depitcho (who he used to admire alot), Montana Kamenga and JF Ifonge.
He had Chikito Mutakatif (in the Allies contre Ben Laden-video with the uncut version, he said that there were only one musician BCBG that isn't which was Chikito because he used to be his friend), CNN, Ile de Cambodge, Jipson Butundokolo (which even Fally's own dad used once to mistake him for Fally), Jordan Kusa and Brigade as friends

If I remember well Fally talked a few times about his friends of QL during the A2BM era and Droit Chemin. The thing is that Fally's succes is huge and often stuff happening around him, that there's no time or need to talk about his past in QL every time. If an artist starts often to talk about his past, it means that he's finished or doesn't have enough actual news around him
