Hahahaha Koffi learned his lesson for what happened to during their first Europe-tour, what Blanchard explained in the first part of the second episode. I think that he would have done the same thing for the dancers, if they had the courage to do what Blanchard.
It looks that there were some problems in Zaiko before Avis de Recherche, because how could the back-up bass player also not show-up, while the main-bassist not being there. Looks like it was a 12 from Oncle Bapius towards Nyoka Longo. Many people forget he and Meridjo were co-leading Zaiko with Nyoka Longo. It is only sad that Koffi wanted to punish Rocky Blanchard for playing with them when visiting Zaiko, while everybody including Koffi’s friends were happy. The way Fifi required Rocky to apologise to Koffi, once again showed her role a official 2eme bureau. Also years later how Eddy Badiata first brought him to Fifi’s house to steal him from Zaiko and meeting Koffi there. I wonder now, when Bendoson started to date her. Because I remember Eric Tutsi saying that he spent times in Fifi’s house when coming back to the rehab for the second time while Quartier Latin was in Europe for Droit de Veto.
It was always said that Blanchard (Magie) and Willy Bula (V12) stayed because of dating dancers. Former QL-members even confirming it in different interviews. That must be frustrating for Rocky Blanchard to stay just because of having played for Zaiko a few days before the Europe-trip.
What I learned from this interview is to never bring your parents to Koffi house to apologize, when it’s not sure if you will still go to Europe, it will only strengthen Koffi’s decision to leave you behind. CNN did the same thing by bringing his dad while Koffi almost took him for Effrakata instead of Brigade, because of being impressed how he animated in Kenya. It was a weird action from Willy Bula after the fight between Rita Dembo and Zina Bilawu, while the trip is the next day. He must have regretted it, which why he sended his parents. Now I wonder If Eric Tutsi would have been on the V12-trip if it didn’t happen or if it was already to bring 4 singers + Babia. It’s crazy to hear that Suzuki was also almost left behind in Kinshasa for V12. He was so lucky. Imagine V12 without Suzuki. I’m sure that they would have taken Aladji his place. Now I can finally close the chapter about dancers of V12-trip. First I was convinced them to be there, but that VHS that I saw 30 years ago must then be one of the last concerts during the Magie-trip. However, I think that it would have been nice if Koffi still brought dancers despite the tour being originally meant to only record V12. Because Quartier Latin of the 1990s, isn’t QL when there are no dancers. The dancers Koffi took in Europe weren’t giving the same vibes, late Mboyo, Zina, Rita and Kamono gave. But during one of the Ultimatum concerts, Koffi presented once of the dancers that backed during the V12-tour and if I remember well, Koffi said that the dancers decided to leave or something like that.
I had already a feeling that Beevans not talking 100% the truth when giving the reasons about why he didn’t animate much on V12. Because in some cassettes of Kinshasa-concerts after Magie I saw, he was good like a real Mikiliste. He just not giving the 100% anymore on working. I would like to know why Kaps Kapangala decided to leave Quartier Latin during the V12-trip. Hopefully he will do an interview about his past in QL until his departure. Like what French people say “Quelque part le malheur est bon”. Because if Kaps didn’t leave, then Champion wouldn’t have joined Quartier Latin.
What I don’t understand in this interview is that Blanchard claims about all bass of Ultimatum from the begin to end being his and that Binda Bass just played the same partitions in the studio, only modifying the sebene-parts a bit, after listening to it through cassette. While Paty Bass said the same thing in one of his interviews, saying that he created everything from the begin to end in Ultimatum (in Ado’s interview he said that he made V12). But difference here is that Blanchard says that Koffi started to take Binda to Africa-tours to get used, while Paty Bass said that Koffi brought him to different African trips, to bring Binda Bass on the end to Europe. So which version is truth. There is some point that Blanchard said that he thought Sunda Bass to play bass, them ending up by being 4 bass-players and when preparing Ultimatum them playing each 2 songs (2x Paty, 2x Binda, 2x Sunda, 2x Blanchard). but when coming to himself, Sam only choosing rumba tracks when he would play (already receiving indirectly 12 from Koffi). Itlooks like Blanchard indirectly threw shots towards Paty, by praising that Binda is a polite guy, etc. (with on the end ozo comprendre hein) ? They went a bit quick about the preparations of Ultimatum. I would have liked to know a bit about the Kenya-trip, where they recorded the album with Willy Bula, Babia, Eric, Lebou and Coco Tchomba, but the recording-files getting lost.
Here Blanchard said that Eric Tutsi started to use drugs because of him being left behind because of Ultimatum-trip. But I remember Suzuki saying that he already started used it when they went on tours in Africa before Ultimatum and Eric himself saying that it because of the fame when returning from V12. Also the version Blanchard came about Popolipo’s departure from Zaiko’s departure is totally different. Popolipo himself said that he wasn’t showing up in concerts anymore because of not being happy with the money he was getting. But here Blanchard made it look like that Koffi tried to destabilize Zaiko, when seeing that Nous Y Sommes started to dominate Loi in the musiccharts, by getting him and Popolipo back. It reminds me how many former Wenge EL Paris say that Koffi stole Savanet Depitcho, while Depitcho spent months at home before joining Quartier Latin.
Another thing what I would like to know is Motingia’s departure from Quartier Latin, because Paty said that Motingia left because of him not being selected for the Loi-trip. But the way Blanchard talked was like Motingia was still there after Loi.
What surprised me in the interview was how Rocky Blanchard explained the way JB Mpiana contacting him to join Wenge BCBG after the split of Wenge 4x4, but him sending Sunda Bass, since that he was already with Zaiko. But when Sunda was alive he never mentioned Blanchard and said that he went there just when seeing that he was not getting any chance in Quartier Latin.
