You might laugh at me for saying this, but Jpson's album Diagnostic is actually great. It's even better than some EP's/albums of the period 2007-2012 that had succes. I definitely recommend taking the time to listen to the album, except for the song he made with Meiway (that's one of the worst featuring I've ever heard). Please let me know what you think of the album afterwards


The generique was not bad. This is the typical style that the last generation of street bands were making and unknown bands that were appearing on tv-channels of Kinshasa

You can already hear that this song was arranged by Philpphe Guez when hearing the programmed drums and keyboards. When hearing the song it's like he melted two's song in one. Apart Koffi Olomide in BEK (Sixieme Chantier & BB Gout), I didn't remind an artist in the 2007-2012 period, recording a rumba longer than 10 minutes. I think that Frida Mushi paid Jpson a good amount of money for the song.

The style in the first minutes of the song made me remind of Bozi's Anti Choc. I remember Jpson once saying that he used to be a big fan of Anti Choc when he started singing

It's so sad that the album flopped very hard, while it's a great album. It looks like Jipson recorded the album for a big part on his own funds, because Diagnostic had barely promotion. It also came out in the wrong period, Jpson himself also didn't really capitalize on the hype of his departure, which made him already being finished before releasing the album. In the Congolese music-scene is very hard to be taken seriously after having disappeared from the spotlights, even it's a short a moment.  If it was released in 2008 or just before summer 2009, then it had maybe the chance to succeed. Because at that time people were wondering  who else of G5 would succeed, next to Fally & Ferre. In 2010, artists like Fally Ipupa & Ferre Gola already released their second album, those who failed tried to make it up by releasing/recording an EP or album. The focus being on Fally Ipupa, Werrason, Ferre Gola, MJ30, Koffi Olomide, JB Mpiana, Felix Wazekwa,... (Kabose is trying to find a way to match Malgré Moi's success, since 18h30 wasn't able to do so. Lacoste on his way to release Kingongolo, who would become a big succes, after failing with C'est par la la Solution)

Sometimes I think, that it would have been great if Koffi officially decided after the Danger de Mort-tour to settle Quartier Latin in Paris and giving them the freedom to release albums, like Papa Wemba used to do with Viva la Musica (1987-2002), them also having the freedom to promote their albums in Kinshasa with session artists. Koffi Olomidé himself doing concerts sometimes with the remaining musicians in Kinshasa. I think that many albums would have been a succes like we saw in Viva La Musica, when Reddy, Stino, Joly and co used to release albums. Many that returned back to Kinshasa with Koffi had the desire to release an album like Fally, but Koffi sadly said that it was forbidden on tv, just before the tour ended and that he would fire the person straight away who would come a project. Which also happened. Titina didn't want to extend his contract anymore and returned back to Europe once it came to an end to back Ferre and later on working on his own album. Bouro tried to talk about his album Vice de Procedure with Koffi and got fired. The same for Modogo. Soleil also left later (I don't remember if it was about talking of his album on tv or being mad that he got suspended, since it's long time ago).

Talking about settling in Europe, I had read somewhere when the crisis started within Quartier Latin, that Koffi said to the musicians that this would be their last tour and that they had to do their best to get papers, because he wouldn't apply for visa's anymore and only peforming with those that remained in Europe. But when hearing sometimes interviews of musicians that got back to Kinshasa after Danger de Mort, they all said that the musicians that stayed ran away.

Going back to the topic. Had some of you listened to a few songs that I posted ?

I listened to the album and damn how did I miss this? It’s a good albu. I always listen to QL alumni albums, QL alumni’s have really good albums.

Most of them have good albums. I'm now looking for Shella Mputu's Moto aza Kaka Moto and Montana Kamenga's Conclusho Renverso and soon I will listen to Titina's Affaire à Suivre. The only person that deceived me is Modogo. I've never heard a bad album like that. There's only one or two song who are good. Also the generique was really bad, you wouldn't think that Japonais would play lead guitar that bad. If I was Yan Mfumu, than I would have put Modogo, his artistic direction, Japonnais and Apocalyps in prison. I still don't believe that he could come with a bad album like that while he had songs like Exil d'Amour, Certitude, Jules BM and Sylvekou on his name. If he knew that he would come with something like that he could just release a maxi single of 3 tracks.

Hahaha you really didn’t like Modogo’s album? I only listen to Critère from that album, it reminds me of Jules BM. But yeah Modogo set a pretty high standard with the songs he released in QL and Academia. Montana’s album Conclusho Renverso is decent it felt like a Latino album because he recruited some of the mineurs to his group who participated in his album, Shella I haven’t even heard of that album, these guys can be the worst when it comes to keeping their albums.
