Back in the days, rivals and emenies would come to funerals (even if there was a risk to get beaten by youngsters), also those had hold a big grudge against the person would come. People would sometimes even become mad if x or y didn't show up at the funeral. But it looks that everything has from Papa Wemba's death.

yeah i think koffi and latino missed out due to the grudge,but also i think because the funerals would be organized by fally's camp surely since he is the one who brought him back home so they probably feared a humiliation setup
even koffi is starting to slowly say indirectly without naming what he is facing from fally's camp when abroad while in the past years both would "protect",i think dicap kind of "belittling" his time in quartier latin in front of a french journalist was the point which got koffi over the edge of not anymore trying to be too diplomatic

Yeah,honestly the overall mentality around our music has got seriously worse,there is not even friendly banter/soft rivalry banter anymore,anything is taken to the absolute mad extreme especially when you are the "ugly kid"
in big 2025 you still hearing stupid stuff like ferre is not allowed in kintambo,heritier not allowed in matete and so on
i said it years ago,that it was weird to me that congolese music has gone way more toxic than when there was fights everyday and it proves right today,look how even a simple arrest of deplick is celebrated by some over a private convo where he lost his head,while they dont even have a personal direct problem with the guy,its more collateral

Did social media make it worse? Why is polemic so personal these days? I remember that there were elder musicians that tried to counsel younger musicians – remember when Wenge 4×4 were brought to pray together and talk before the 1997 split? Remember how Miasha Park established rules to avoid conflict between artists when members of their group leaves, and so on

Social Media has also a part of it. But it's more the way the menality of Congolese people really changed from 2003 till 2025. Just watch different videos of our community (the way of thinking, talking, idea, etc.) on youtube from 2006-07 till today and you see that alot has changed, especially the last 15/10 years.

There's no Papa Wemba, Lutumba Simaro, Franco and Tabu Ley anymore, to make such reconcilation or create meetings. But at the same time they started to get tired to get involved in unifying bandleaders, because they weren't listening to them. Tabu Ley said at some point during Maisha Parc, that he wouldn't give advice anymore, because nobody listen, despite the respect they keep giving him. Talking about counseling musicians, during the Zaire-era, those who were made to avoid splits all failed (Yoka Lokole vs Viva la Musica in 1976, Zaiko Langa Langa vs Grand Zaiko Wawa in 1980, Papa Wemba vs Victoria Eleison in 1982 and Zaiko Langa Langa in 1988). But that was often because of the elders still being in the game.
