De quoi est-il décédé ? Il était si talentueux… J’avais entendu à l’époque des rumeurs disant qu’il serait mort du sida.

remember the 90's was the peak of the Epidemic that robbed us of so many young talents.

There are different versions. Some say that it's AIDS, other say that Bozi sacrified him, others come with that drug trafficking-story, etc.

I saw two interviews of former Anti Choc musicians and they both indirectly said that it was AIDS. One of them even said that it was the reason why he returned back to Kinshasa, knowing that he would die soon, because he used to live in Liège (Belgium). In the same interview, some one in the comment section even gave the name of the woman that gave him that disease.

I think it’s better to write in English so that the remaining members can understand. I also believe it’s one of the forum’s unwritten rules since its creation, after Vibes d’Afrique was put on hold. You can always translate your text using different apps or ChatGPT. I first used to write with a lot of mistakes at first, but I’ve improved over the years. I remember that at some point (I believe around 2014), almost nobody was reacting to articles anymore. Archos and I then started writing in Lingala, but people complained, which made us switch back to English.

Yeah, the success of Anti Choc unexpectedly returned after the release of Père Noël Confiance. This even made Bozi try to prevent Kofi Alibaba releasing his solo album, even though he had already started recording it. Initially, Bozi had allowed Kofi Alibaba to work on the album, since Anti Choc was struggling at the time and he thought the project could help boost the band, similar to how the albums of Reddy Amisi and Stino Mubi helped boost Viva la Musica. However, this situation soon led to Kofi Alibaba’s departure. He was joined by bass player Sadico and guitarist Micha Brown and together they formed Interpol. The group enjoyed considerable success with their album and their concerts. What I find strange is that Kofi Alibaba’s album can hardly be found online anymore, only two or three extracts on YouTube, and that’s it.

About Fifi Mofude, I don’t remember exactly who said it, since it was two or three years ago. More than eight interviews were given by different artists on different channels, and each version being different. But it could have been either Kofi Alibaba or Lapino. Fifi started his own band in N'djili after leaving Anti Choc (Babia was also his musicians), but when going to Lunda, everything went wrong and his musicians went back to Kinshasa leaving him alone. Fifi Mofude then decided to become a diamond trafficker in Lunda (Angola). On his return to Kinshasa, one of his trips, he reportedly “lost his head” and later fell ill. Just before that , he came back with diamonds and was looking for clients to sell them to. But around that same period, two of his children passed away. This made their grandfather furious, declaring that whoever was behind their deaths would also die. Not long after, Fifi Mofude himself passed away. During the mourning period, his widow spoke about the diamonds he had left behind, which she said she had hidden in her maputa (traditional clothing). But as she showed them, the diamonds had mysteriously turned into charcoal briquettes. Those present at the mourning believed this was a sign that Fifi had been involved with witchcraft having allegedly signed a pact in Lunda, like other Congolese diamond traffickers, to sacrifice his children in order to become rich. Since this was in the 1990s, many different versions of the story circulated. Some said it was AIDS, while others believed it was a human sacrifice connected to the band.

Talking about human sacrifices, when Bozi Boziana returned with Anti Choc following the release of Les Refoulés de Schengen (1996). Around that time, atalaku Waburo, who used to back atalaku Lapino, passed away. The public pointed the finger at Bozi, since it was already the third time that someone well-known had died. However, 3 years ago Lapino did an interview explaining that Waburo went to Mombele to contact a witchdoctor and that he tried to elimate him though that witchdoctor, since that he wanted to take his (Lapino's) place. But it backfired at him, which made Waburo pass away

wow, thanks for that for informative extract. Witchcraft is really an integral part of Congolese culture.

very few know that one of the vocalist's and dancers from the "confiance" album 1995, Lili Nedule also passed away close to that time. She was the daughter of Papa Noel. Its difficult getting any information on the circumstances of her death.

going back to the issue of posting in English only, I don't think its fair. I've been on this platform for 10 years now and the site is past due for a refresh which I suggest should include a built in translator. That way we can all post in our own languages.

Lili Nedule passed away years later. I just don't know in which year. I believe somewhere in the early 2000s. Most people say that it was because of AIDS, but Congolese people often spread rumors that aren't true.

Lille Nedule went with King Kester Emeneya back to Kinshasa in 1997 to participate as singer at Salle de Congres of Palais du Peuple and Stade des Martyrs, backing him as woman alongside late Fatou la Gazelle when singing Nzinzi. She also participated in Aime Buanga's album Piece Rare of 2000 along with her father Papa Noel, but I don't remember which song it was.

Thank you, I didn't know. From now on, I will speak in English. The story of Fifi Mofude and Wally Ngonda is really sad. I appreciate all the links to the interviews and anecdotes you have shared.

Lili Nedule's death shook me hard, imagine I only found out this year that she had already passed. I'm look and see if I can find any late video's of her.
thanks for the info.
