I fully agree with Wazekwa, Congolese musicians don't give their best when performing in Africa. Fally came to Nairobi and spent one hour just doing jokes on the stage, the same with Ferre who went to Dar and spent a lot of time just hugging women. What of if this show was somewhere in France? Is it because Africans pay less?

Like I've always said, these musicians don't understand what really sells their music. I wish people like archos could tell them that those who don't speak lingala got attracted to Congolese music because of the sebene, it's not the singing. Yes,some sentimental singing they like but only for a short period especially if the singer is good like Ferre,Fally, JB etc and they prefer the older songs. I think only Werra understands a bit of what am saying about how to perform for non lingala speakers as he goes straight for sebene or old Wenge songs which people can remember.

If you look at the crowd too, they are half asleep and don't bring energy sometimes even when sebene is playing, only a few drink individuals show that they are enjoying so these musicians should be able to analyse and see what they are doing wrong. Archos, please help them!!

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! say Quietly!! that is what some Kenyan men liked about Koffi choosing those Heavy women for his band. I have many confessions from many guys.

You know the musicians are burying themselves that's why the most popular music now is Nigerian music followed by coupe decalle, people want dancefloor songs not ballads.

Congolese musicians unfortunately have a reputation of playing better when they're out of Congo.

Congolese crowd knows how to appreciate artists..imagine Zulema crooning to a Nairobi crowd he would be disappointed by the reception as opposed to the Kin crowd.I started a thread sometime on why most Congolese band would not be a hit in Kenya and I received a lot of flak. I attended Ferrer concert in Nairobi and the crowd was boring.
my take on ballads they are the way to showcase chanteurs skills..notice there are more chanteurs than atalakus. ballads also showcase instrumentalists skill..this is apart from the obvious..money from mabanga..

lastly what do you call ballads that turn to sebenes? would these be a compromise ?

I started a thread sometime on why most Congolese band would not be a hit in Kenya and I received a lot of flak. I attended Ferrer concert in Nairobi and the crowd was boring.

How many of such shows have you attended? Maybe it's the crowds at that particular show. Like I said in the other thread, I know a great number of Kenyans and they all seem to love Ferre Gola, it's him they talk about mainly and if you go on the Yekola Lingala forum which is mainly comprised of Kenyans, the majority of songs they like to post are Ferre Gola ones and a few by Fally. I have seen 2 polls where people asked who was better between Ferre and Fally and from the comments Ferre was the winner on both polls.
