Simple explanation, they have adopted that as their common stage plot or plan so that the live sound engineer doesn't have to struggle in figuring out which input cable is for what on the mixer as the sound is altered throughout the show when necessary so best to have a fixed plan that everyone knows and can control. It is the same even with vocals, in Congolese music, the lead vocalist is normally right in the centre so his mic is always better than the others and usually on his right he has the bass and 2nd voice singers whilst on his left are the tenorists and counter tenorists as some bands usually interchange on who sings what chorus so for harmony each group has to be on either side of the lead singer as opposed to random positions on the stage.

I also see communications between instrumentalists especially the soloist and drummer .Could the arrangement be to facilitate this?
By the way the communication range from a nod, a wave of the hand,an angry stare to verbal shouting.I wonder how they get along after the concert .

Yes, the drummer is the leader or conductor and often has to be in sync with the soloist especially when starting a song or when they have to change tempo,rhythm etc,am sure you sometimes see that the soloists turn their back on the crowd and face the drummer especially when doing some complicated parts on a song for instance solo guitar signatures or what they call ''changement de frequence'' the drummer and soloist can make or break a serene.
Based on the shows i attend here in London, the guys criticise each other after the show but not to the point where they stop talking,they normally just discuss to say at that point on this song you were meant to do that but you did or the lyrics or notes you sang were wrong etc especially when playing other people's songs.
