I think I do not need to put a paragraph on this topic since most of us here have seen me posting comments castigating Segiun Mignon, the poor drummer of Wenge BCBG. Some members of this forum have indicated that Segiun is not a bad drummer and that he plays just like Titina Le Grand Pretre who was once number 1 drummer of JB Mpiana before Koffi Olomide, dangled a carrot in front of his face.

I have refused with a big no, that Segiun plays like Titina. Whether he hits the snare with energy a grown up applies when playing with a child's cheeks, his style is still different from Titina's. Why am I saying this? I am not an expert at playing drums but from school, I know some pieces. Titina, makes use of the drum bass, all cymbals and the snare in a coordinated manner which makes even his contribution on slow tracks marvelous to hear. Give him a sebene, and he will use these parts to lead in a sebene. Watch the video below:



Contrary to poor Segiun Mignon, this fat guy simply can play without a drum bass in place because he never utilises it or he does in intervals. Secondly, what I have realized is that when he plays in a slow track, he only bends his head and body to reach at the lower cymbal and snare, thats it. the song will go on and on until JB shouts his name thats when he goes for the upper cymbals. Give him a sebene and all he knows is the snare and lower cymbal with no drum bass, that's it. Lastly, his low energy, makes him a very poor drummer. Come to Kakol, he may not utilise all drum sets, but his strength and use of drum bass and snare, raises his qualities. I will not talk about Champion a lot but in summary, he plays like Titina.

  EMO you are legend lol, the hate you have for Seguin is crazy man  , I think it's an insult to compare Seguin to Titina quite clearly it's disrespectful. I think that Seguin has traits of Titina to him he is completely different in my opinion I think when Titina was in BCBG he was playing a bit like him but I think Titina was just a master with smacking the snare I mean listen to Internet smacked the snare perfectly and clear. Now Seguin can do that but to the same level as Titina and Seguin has a style of his own shown here:



He play kind of smacked the snare but I think he mixed the with a bit of drum rolling (watch the live version youtube and you'll see what I mean) and he played quite quick.



Now here you get the shit slow seguin, look at the fast tempo now Pelisa Ngwasuma and here I think here just slowed to till current day

To summarize I think Seguin is a good drummer and he very good at replicating other drums for instance Titina and Kakol (listen to Quel Est ton Probleme and Toza Olia), I think Seguin has to work hard own establishing his own style and add more energy to drumming (losing weight will also help him) but please comparison to Le Grand Pretre is an insult he one of the greats in the drumming department.

Newside, thanks very much. But mind you, I am not comparing titina and segiun, I am trying to show the guys here the difference between the two by using the drum parts and how both use them. But again, thanks for being a little bit by my side on this issue.

Failing to understand your point EMO and though you claim not to be comparing the two drummers ie Titina and Seguin, your title says Titina vs Mignon?    This argument will keep coming back despite having been addressed several times in the past. Yes, everyone knows that Titina is in his own class with the likes of Ramatoulaye and Simolo Katondi

 It is a fact that Seguin Mignon is not the most ideal drummer needed at Wenge BCBG for the band to match other bands within it's market simply because the guy is not consistent on his playing and does not demand that his instruments are well tuned and arranged when recording but this could be the fault of his boss JB Mpiana choosing to work in cheap studios in the last 10 years.

As regards technique, only if you come in with an already biased view, Seguin knows what to do with drums,he does not just concentrate on the snare drum like the likes of Papy Kakol do, he utilises the pieces of the drum kit as expected in Congolese music.

Here are the records which prove that the guy can produce good results when conditions are good ie good studio, good sound engineer.

and talking of slow songs,this song had live drums not the usual programmed drums in rhumba/slow songs,you can just about hear clearly every piece Seguin hits

Come on, the guy is often weak but he knows how to play drums but yes the reserve drummers below him in BCBG hit the drums with more energy than him but it is folly to call him incompetent.

Used to sound under titinas  section.  Watch and listen to most live music of jb and you will probably agree with me. The last concert they had while abroad recording mpunda attests to what I Am saying.  The guy has destroyed Knapp sebenes.  Wait until bcbg one day reorganizes that section.

I totally agree with you that Seguin is not the best drummer of them lot that BCBG has. I know 3 drummers at BCBG who are better than Seguin but what can i do? nothing,however,i know for a fact that he's not really a poor drummer  just lack of that consistent high quality of playing and poor choice of studio and sound engineer that's all. It's not by coincidence that most serious bands and solo musicians in Congo opt to record with Ndiaye's JP Kys even just for generiques and sebene songs, that's what even the likes of Fally do now. Rhumba songs they do elsewhere

i would join sly to add its not by coincidence that seguin's best efforts in studio have always been in ndiaye,from pelisa ngwasuma,to the primus generique of 2013 which has never been released officially(the one who starts like the poor recent one) and the likes of quel est ton probleme,tosa olia of celeo,second generique of celeo aswell...jp kys has a high standard which helped many generiques to be seen as good or very good  just based on that great sound quality,even with not so special animation in it
