I have expressed several times recently that I am not fully satisfied with albums released in the past 5 years, due to lack of truly good melodies, except for some cases. Roga released this album: Kindoki previously, and the tunes were fine, but I missed a hitting melody. Something that Zaiko is still capable to make. Well, I was suprised when I listened to the song from Roga's new album, the generique: Contentieux 2. I have to say the beginning of the song is just perfect. The melody going until 1:34 in the song has something that I am missing from recent records in the Congolese scene. It has that typical Congolese ambiance that makes you crazy right away, without compromise. Unfortunately I couldn't find this at other parts of this generique and in other songs. Anyway, I like the album itself, the songs are fine, I listen to the song:Contentieux quite often, however I feel if they would have given more attention to composing the solos, it would be a record as hitting as Kala Yi Boeing or Kin É Bougé was in the 90's. A big miss. But I don't give up the hope that soon somebody will realise this and add that 'Extra' to a new album.

I like the song/album too but much like what has already been said on this forum, the songs sound too similar.  If you listen to the main compilation song of Kindoki, you can literally add it to Contentieux and it will sound like one big song. Dont get me wrong, I thing that RogaRoga/Extra Musica's Generiques/Ndombolos have nearly mastered the heavy sound but its just the same thing too often.

Yes, the beginning of the song commemorates very much to the sound of older Extra Musica albums, it is a pity they didn't add more parts like that.

On the other hand, they are still the number 1 band for me regarding choruses and rumba accompaniment. There is that song on the album titled: Zero, it is simply fantastic. One of their best rumba pieces accoarding to my opinion:

I understand.....we all have different opinions.
To me Roga Roga's music is highly monotonous and less inspiring, i can stand his generiques but even there because they are full of energy.
Do you know Kevin Mboaunde and his band Patrouille des Stars, listen to the album Kanga Nzoto maybe you'll understand just how much Roga Roga is stuck in the past.

In my opinion, monotonity doesn't hurt, provided it is coupled with uplifting ambiance. This latter one is what disappeared from their solos. I thought this is because they wanted to modernize the sound, but that generique that I linked proves even with the modern sound, those earlier type of solos can make a good combination. If they would pay attention to it, they could create a top hit album. There are moments in this album that shows they would be capable of that, it is just a matter of good cordination to achieve it. Somebody should supervise them in the studio to define such a direction. Then, an album made this way could be the record of the decade.

Nevertheless, I am glad you can still find gems on their albums.
