So I know Awilo has been around for a very long time. You could hear him in most songs as an atalaku (or more of a hypeman in his case). He was also a drummer with Viva La Musica and Nouvelle Generation. He has been able to capture world's attention with Moto Pamba, Coupe Bibamba, Kafou Kafou, and Mondongo.

I also noticed that in the last few years, he's fizzled out of not just limelight but making good old generiques and sebenes. I was wondering if he's just tired of music and is now only interested in this new afro-pop, coupe decale type music. I was also wondering if since he was so popular in the late nineties and two thousands that he made so much money that he's not "hungry" for good music anymore. I think he left a void that still can't be filled even with the likes of Fally and Ferre. I know he was never really a singer per se but produced good music never the less. Anyone knows what's going on with him? if he will ever return to making people dance again?

I think like his woman Barbara Kanam, he's used to working in West Africa and Paris/ Belgium and has a fanbase of West Africans so he tries to balance his music to appeal to rhumba and decalle lovers. His last album Super Man was okay for me, he also did some good shows in Europe and Canada after that album, I have a dvd with 2 shows,one in Europe and the other in Canada and they were all excellent with the likes of Simolo, Caein Madoka and others backing him on instruments with his woman Barbara on vocals along with Omba Le Petit Bokul and two excellent atalukus.

The guy has always been fire. Other than Koffi Olomide, Awilo was the next guy to project congolese music to the world. Is there a bio on him here? If not can archos help out? I would like to know more about him.

What's the point of denying that he was in a relationship with her when everyone knows they were lovers.

He was the first artist whose music I met from the Congolese music palette. That made me come to like that style, but to tell the truth I only listened him for Caien Madoka. If he wouldn't have such a good backing, maybe today I wasn't a Congolese Music fan. That's why, I like very much those tracks of his that have good guitar parts, like Gate Le Coin. But he doesn't really focus on those. Most of his tracks are boring to me. Guy Guy Fall composed similar, but not that heavy "electronical" stuff, I like that better. Or Sakis, like in Volcanic Girls. I like that electronic direction better than Awilo's version. But he did compose some classics, I agree, and I do listen to those.
