Hehehe..Archos please do an extensive article on payment systems in Congolese music. These guys complain but are better dressed and drive better cars that I do yet they complain of poor pay. Djino and Chai for example complained of poor pay yet they could start their own band.

I remember asking this question many times, its hard now to know what these musicians get as regular pay but on clothing I think they get from donors and friends from poto.

yes one day i will do a post about it,but in short as far as i know  koffi pays on monthly basis,but i hear it changed in the post-fally quartier latin,there is also wazekwa who like i said earlier opened accounts for his 42 or so musicians and transfers their salary there,then there is fally who pays his musicians on concert basis either before or after the show,then there the wenge's were sometimes they get "something" sometimes,surely the chiefs get a special treatment,i know for example that genta gets a personal salary from jb each month outside the group's finances
 then there are groups who they dont even receive money for transports the guys just do music for passion with hope that someday it pays or if a bigger group is interested in them they jump in quickly

USD...Archos did an article on mabanga , matelo etc. I was requesting to know how the artists are paid. He has talked about payment per concert, per song etc. With mabanga I consider it a side hustle. ( how do instrumentalists get their mabanga?)

indeed shamala,aside from songs and when donors shower musicians money on stage its a big hustle and what you get depends of how popular and powerful you are,for example when wata was still in maison mere him and kakol would get much more from a donor than if lets say taddet went to see him unless its taddet who brought that donor into the group
like i said earlier,the group of fally i think they get something like 100 dollars per concerts,assuming they perform a lot it makes for them a decent total on monthly basis
the donor thing is quite inconsistent for the"not too known" musicians who will need to do long office round-ups to collect good money from their group's donors
then also like you know sometimes leaders of other groups do not refuse give money when a member of another group visits him or meets him by surprise,to the extent that some musicians just go by the roads where the leaders live and    pretend they came to see whoever and thought it would be impolite not to stop by and say hello
