the wazekwa's topic has brought back to me something i have always been thinking about,the issue of people considered as bad singers
in my opinion,a bad singer is a guy completely painful to listen to and sometimes it actually happens even with guys having beautiful voices but using badly(so far i have seen more of that case in foreign music) but it seems the common perception is that 99 per cent of guys who do not have high voices or true deep and powerful 2eme voix  or sweet voices like alain mpela who is like a crossover of the two types is automatically seen as a faux chanteur(especially if they have good looks and/or are great dancers)
I think there is a confusion between have a voice which is not "attractive" so their mistakes are more exposed and guys who are just completely bad
guys like werra,wazekwa,adolphe,karmapa for example to name a few are often labelled faux chanteurs but then how come with their "faux chanteurism" they have that much songs which some have becomed classic,some great hits,and some just good artistically regardless of success
technically singing well is "respecting the notes",and i dont think those guys mentionned above constantly "disrepect" that

Werra is okay at times, Karmapa is decent, Adolphe can't sing to save his life. Wazekwa ahh nvm. And they have hits because they had other singers on those songs and they must've had sang pretty decently on those songs themselves or their animators must've done really good on the generiques. 

Good points. Those mentioned above are in the most difficult category because they somehow sing boring vocals. I can stand Wazekwa and Adolphe and to some extent Werra if he really controls his voice in concert but Karmapa is suspect unless he sings really low like he usually does but when he tries to go high he sounds way off just like Werra.

You have just reminded me, i laughed the other day,one of the congolese sites posted a clip of Wazekwa singing Ebale Ya Zaire with completely false notes, one chap on facebook commented that am sure Papa Lutumba wanted to hit Wazekwa with his guitar for messing up the song. The likes of Papa Wemba and Manda Chante were just listening, Wemba had a very serious face,am sure he laughed when he got home, that was an embarrassing performance by Wazekwa.

The whole faux chanter issue is complicated when artists who are labeled as such put zero effort into singing. Some of the artists labeled as faux chanters sing quite well under the right conditions and with effort.

Prime case in point; same song:
Defao - excellent as usual.

Exactly. I think it's purely out of respect that Koffi decided to maintain the song on the album but this was shit singing by Werra however we know that he has songs which suit his voice like you have shown above,the song Likambo is another good example where Werra shines even with a bit of autotune used.

Excellent singer but his mumbling is killing off his legacy it's like your losing respect for him after what his done in the past. But his legacy is solidified so it don't matter as much.

but everyone can say they mostly like koffi's old songs rather than his recent songs
