After re-watching this I think Papa Wemba really wanted to change his ways, I quite feel sorry for him because maybe his surroundings changed a bit of his path because he was really emphasis God were ever he went and all of sudden things changed.

Agree, at this point in time he was at odds his old sapeur ways and his quest to be closer to god following his humbling stint in prison. The leaches (harsh, but accurate) he had around him vying for his attention also seemed to be a limiting factor. Being "Papa" he felt seemed obligated to help out these folks, but many were simply ungrateful and too arrogant to accomplish something for themselves. The documentary also had a biased undertone against Wemba.

Its very admirable how he kept a very close, mother-like relationship with Mere Malou, who provided social and hospitality assistance to him from the early 70s till her passing in 2008.

Similar unfortunate case with Emeneya, who helped many youths get to Europe and America, even financing educations, but finding himself in financial hardship during his illness towards the end of his life because of his kindness and the ungratefulness of the folks he helped.
