The "boss" animation ... Was that a dig at Ferre or is it a common animation amongst groups, like "ndombolo" which was animated by everyone back in the day?

Not as good as what i know he can give if his head is not in his other head. Again not as bad as what he has been churning lately. Kirikou is a poor animator. With Maniango, Nzinga, Ordinateur and Aspirine you wonder that he had to use a joke like Kirikou just to get back at Ferre. This foes not excite me. I will wait for the rumbas then pass a verdict!!!

WTF is this? Poor arrangement and the tiny animator sounding like he is constipated and trying to push his shit down the toilet. I don't know why someone would actually like Koffi would spend time in studio recording such kind of crap!

Kirikou must now be bought by Arsenal because for sure he is not the quality of our home club. He's wasted resources of the club and for that reason he must go for a free transfer, whatever he was bought to do even the coach does much better.

Very disappointed in Koffi, sonically this is so sub-par from somebody with his repertoire. From the choreography to the music to intervention of the atalaku, koffi here sounds like a local artist..oh well hopefully the rest of the songs are better than this here song

In fact I said, like Syle Moomberg but with less quality, the concept is the same musically not for the video, Bill was folkloristic in that video and Nyataquance is only a music video with no concept, Kirikou has a nice presence, and for being an atalaku you can even do with a little voice like he has.

Don't worry Bro its something you should be used to by now. The name Koffi is just not likable to many people, not just in here but across the world, he is well aware of it and instead uses it to his advantage. Back to Nyataquance, myself I hate kirikou parts and I feel he should leave QL as he is not the quality of this band. Nevertheless he will be sent away as he's now accomplished the task he was brought to do and the task was not about singing in Nyataquance.

what's not adding up is i think the people here are a special breed of what we here in america call 'music nerd'. they (in general) want artists to make music in such a specific way. as soon as it doesn't meet that specific criteria its considered trash. me personally i go by how it sounds to MY ears. the song sound good to me lol i was completely confused after reading all of the critiques saying he is over and the song was bad.

I don't sweat it. Once I get to see that I am not feeling a particular song, I go back to the old ones from the same artiste that I have in my repertoire and listen to them. And that settles it for me. I have got enough to fill in the gap.

That's true, The song is making waves in Zimbabwe too (Southern Africa )......i used to believe in everything said in this forum but i realised not even one day all of them agreed in one thing and that means they are basing their critics on who they love (just like Real Madrid fans won't agree that Messi is a star)..........This song for me it's good and sang by the African legend.............Selfie still today stands to me as the most relevant and best song in Africa (it got the whole world dancing and showed Koffi's intelligence)

Just because something becomes popular doesn't mean its good. Obviously anything koffi releases whether its trash or not will go viral. Its a new song so of course the casuals will like it. But I bet after a few years no one will care about it, and they will go back to his older songs that were actually good. Happens all the time.

@sebene Maniac, you say that popularity is not a measure of a good thing. Maybe you are right but dont you think that whenever an artist releases a song all they want is for it tobe popular? It would rather be crap that captures attention than a gem that nobody gives a fuck about. So with Nyataquance may be crap but people are dancing in East, West and Southern Africa. I think that is what Koffi intended when he released the song!!!

But once these big artists found out that they could make anything they want and it will still become popular and that fans will always have their back, they started focusing less on the quality, and more on the popularity. It sucks it has come to this.

Music Nerd is not meant to be an insult. It just means you are more critical than the average listener. You may never play it but judging by some of the replies here the song is getting played in a lot of places in africa. The irony here is i always see the complaint here that the congolese are losing footing as a force in music and when a song finally makes waves across several national lines the purists are crying foul lol at the end of the day koffi has accomplished what he set out to do and that is create a song that would make ppl dance. its too early IMO to say its a "hit" but apparently its getting there. Again dont be insulted by the reality of your extreme critical nature. Some ppl have high standards and thats great. The average listener just wants to dance and wont be as critical. The criteria is pretty simple for most listeners "does it move me to dance and or listen again?" all of the details and critical points you guys point out the average listener doesnt care about.
This is something i had to learn with regards to hip hop as an artist. I can make the most intricate rhyme schmes in my raps all i want but if ppl are not compelled to move they dont care how many syllables i can cram into a verse lol its just the reality

on the question of quality of production we also have to take into consideration what archos said on another thread on this same running issue. it is about the loss of hassle free work and production in european studios and more important those european based producers and studio engineers. the avalanche of owners with their own studios in congo today is a slow but natural response to this stifling of access to europe due to the combatant situation. in the meantime it is affecting their quality but in the long term i think their studio investments in congo will prove more wonderful investments in congolese music and will be more sustainable and their quality will also gradually get there.
my only issue with the criticism is just how absolutely brutal you guys are and not in the least bit nuanced in them. not even for example take this "nyataquance". surely there is at least one or two things one can say they like about it. say for example you like the bass guitar or the drumss or this crie but not that one etc etc. it is just "this is bad this is crap this is nonsense" etc etc. again and again and again. there is no nuanced or deeper criticism of the music you guys are criticizing whatsover.

Only a few of us on this forum play instruments or understand the concepts of creation of this genre of music,Congolese rhumba. If we start discussing every little detail for instance if the shaker used was computer generated or an actual shaker etc people will start say we are being petty.
Basically,i have praised Koffi for his song Selfie in which he did the animation himself, this nyataquance i listened once on my headphones and for the second time on stereo speakers and i still didn't feel it.
One thing you must understand why it's being trashed is that it was overhyped prior to release, Koffi is still going on about it being the "original dance ya ba boss" as he trashed Ferre Gola's version which in my opinion is the best so when some of us listened to Koffi's version which sounds like it was made in some cheap studio, we just started laughing.

We're the problem!! Music changed but we did not change with it. Some of us want it the original way and I mean only the original way if not then its given all that name. Many of us are still seated waiting for Effrakata and its not coming and it wont come because everything changed. The only problem we have when expressing our views is the wholesome dismissive nature of the artiste. I was shocked one day when it was said in here that Skol is crap!! Ok guys Koffi is not making music for experts, he's making music to entertain his fans and to win the hearts of those who are not keen on Congolese music.
The reason why Kenya features a lot in some of these discussions is that Kenyans are hard to make happy and if they embrace a song then we normally consider it successful. Nobody knew Mose Fan Fan in Kenya 5 years ago but today his song has nearly been made national anthem.

A good example is @SLY, who insists that Nyataquance is crap, but available evidence is that thousands and thousands are enjoying the song!!!So instead of insisting, realise you are in the minority and like Matebu go back to your long-time classics. And by the way, Nyataquance does not excite me much but FOR ME it is waaaaaay better than Ferre's original version..........that is how varied musical taste is!!!!!!I f you love or hate a song, not everybody has to like or hate the same song!!!

It'd be a complete different story if he recent releases did not have any attention, but at this moment this song (like selfie 1.5 years ago) is on top of all the African charts and iTunes world charts. These are facts that cannot be denied. Most Koffiphiles/ettes like his old and new music regardless.

Read my sentiments again then you will realise why i mentioned that i play guitar but if you're not bothered to read,i will remind you that one forum member asked me and other critics why we cannot find at least something positive about the song for instance how the instruments were played etc and that is how my comment came in regarding my ability to play guitar.
Let's not stoop low and start arguing like kids over some overhyped song. My sentiments are mine only,if you don't like what i write just scroll to other replies,it's that simple. Let's not be too serious like we get paid. There is banter in Congolese music just like there is in football between fans but we never go personal in football.

Generally, a new product or service by a provider is expected to be better than tbeir previous service or product,it's the same with music.
It is a fact that Koffi has lost direction no wonder his albums in the last 9 years have been flops, to be precise, since Danger De Mort, his albums have not been popular, it's just one or two songs that have been really appreciated on the market. Just look at the album 13eme Apotre, a 4CD album yet only one song is popular(Selfie).
We are not waiting for another Effrakata but just decent music that will be listened to forever not songs for a particular moment like Selfie which was popular coz of the new trend of taking selfies and posting on social media.

kiekiekie,i never bothered to add Mandramanda too, i failed to understand what koffi was thinking.
Thanks for reminding me about BEK, forgot about,it's a decent album by Koffi's standards,he did a bit of serious singing not just mumbling in a deep voice.
I also liked the intervention of Les Mineurs singers and atalukus. I also appreciated Cindy at that point then Koffi followed up that with duets between himself and her, keeping male singers at bay and I got lost.
Apart from Omba, Poumpa Mystique the soloist and Suira Mondelu the excellent drummer and two atalukus, I struggle to remember the names of most of the new Quartier Latin musicians though I can recognise some,it's really sad how the band has changed. Ferre and Fally's departure really messed Koffi up.

That's nonsense. I hardly post on this forum even when i own it, i pay less attention to discussions and only join in when there is new music on the market. Nothing like superiority complex but maybe some people are just suffering from inferiority complex. I do not consider myself superior in any way, am just an ordinary critic like anyone else here and off course I will take the same advice i gave by ignoring nonsense especially personal attacks like yours.
