Yeah I've never danced the Wenge version and plus the one did by Mboshi is better but Tutu gets the recognition because Congolese music is Wenge bias.

exactly loi is a better generique no wonder loi was  more known abroad that ndombolo which was lets say a hit in ivory coast in  cameroon and a bit in east africa while loi reached much more countries
i have few months ago meet an young ivorian comedian and he said you congolese are the kings, when i was at school i became the school's star just because i was the one who could sing loi the best and at end of class most of the students would run and gather around him and ask me  to sing loi and   because of that i was getting a lot of things for free at school
quite funny the impact a song can have

hmmmm I think that the succes of Ndombolo Ya Solo and Loi were equal. It's only that people forgot  the generique of Feux de l'Amour easy, like that of Defao from Sala Noki, who were also a huge succes in Africa. The succes of that generique made Wenge touring whole Africa and filling big halls and stadiums there. The succes of Loi was like a confirmation of the Ndombolo-dance dominating Africa and DRC. Ndombolo ya Solo was an anthem in Africa. Unfortunately they didn't record a videoclip, which make people who didn't witness that era doubt if it was really a huge succes in Africa. While the videoclips of Loi and Sala Noki worked in advantage of Defao & Koffi. Because it made them getting nominated at the AfriCar Music Awards and Kora Awards '98, which Koffi won and being promoted on the French diaspora tv-channel MCM Africa.

Wake Up - October 15, 1996
Feux de l'amour - spring/Summer 1997 (if my memory is correct)
Loi - Mid-December/christmas 1997. A late year release, which was in typical Koffi fashion back then, so it was considered a 1998 album.

hmmmm I think that the succes of Ndombolo Ya Solo and Loi were equal.

Ndeko I have to disagree with you there, Loi went Continental Africa, Caribbean and Europe in terms of circulation, or "viral" as people say now. Back then I kept getting shocked hearing it being played on stations and shows I never expected. My Haitian and Antilles friends were obsessed with the song.

Ndombolo ya solo didn't quite tap into outside markets in the same manner, but in central Africa & Poto... I agree that the two were equal in popularity.

Yea regarding General Defao, people forget how popular he was, especially in Kin and East/West Africa. Sala Noki was right next to Feux de L'amour and Loi. And special recognition that Sala Noki album was recorded in Kinshasa and not in a high-tech studio in Paris.

For sure JB started his laziness long time ago. Some of his classics went without Video. Why did this man not do a video for Ndombolo?

For that, blame producer, Simon SIPE. Most of the biggest hits from that label went without video clips. He wasn't making the investment

Loi, certainly Koffi's most powerful before Effrakatta but both still force people on the dancefloor en masse today.

Now with those arguments about the source of the animation and dance ndombolo,it is actually useless!! By now all experienced critics should know the actual source of animation and dances in Congolese music. Who releases a dance and animation first can claim ownership just for banter but the source is the streets!

If you watch concert dvd's or even listen to less popular albums of back then, you may be surprised to hear ndombolo, ndombolo before it even came out on JB's Feux de l'amour ,Koffi's Loi and Defao's Sala Noki albums even to date, we still hear shegues claiming ownership of some animation and dances by major bands. Right now,we have a shegue who sells at markets,he is doing animation and the likes of Bill and others are being found with him, next we will hear his animation being done by bands because it's proving popular.

exactly and jb himself admitted  he did not know clips would become that vital for promotion so he did not put pressure on simon for clips except that improvised clip of the feux de l'amour song which he did when he want reunited wth pascal poba, mosaka and papa lutumba to ask advice for the conception of omba

This is the generique that put ndombolo crie and dance on the map(my opinion) around Africa...I don't know why Mboshi doesn't get the praise he deserves for animating QL ndombolo which in my opinion is the best compare to wenge and the rest.
I know right people always say tutu is the best to animate ndombolo but I've always preferred mboshi I guess it's because congolese music is wenge bias

i never once danced to wenge ndombolo....growing up in the late 90s, Loi ndombolo was the only ndombolo people outside congo preferred
This is well said........Mboshi gave and did justice to the cry and yet he received the least recognition amongst all the atalakus of his time
